Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

I don't know what's up with those variants but the one on the right looks off somehow. Like, when the actor is still contracted to play He-Man 18 years from now, he'll probably look like this.

Remember in 1989 when Toybiz movie Batman had 3 different heads......?

I honestly wondered if it were just the positioning of the head in the packaging - the right-side figure seems to be looking up - but even when I adjust the position of the box, he still just looks different somehow.

Was there anything different on the packaging for these to differentiate them? "Made in Vietnam" vs "Made in China"?

Both say "Made in Vietnam"

The left figure package has "00560BV" printed barely visibly below the image of He-Man on the back, whereas the right one has "3025OBV" to the left of the UPC. Presumably those are production batch codes, right?

Batch numbers, yeah. Unless you know what you're looking at, you probably won't be able to decode them, though. Not to find any useful information.
And again, there's basically zero chance these were made in different countries. Mattel is not going to spend an extra 70-100 GRAND to cut a whole second set of tooling just so they can have the same tooling in two different countries (not to mention you either have to refine the tooling with two entirely different factories, OR do all the tooling at one factory and then send one set of tools to a different country - which is also -phenomenally- expensive). I know Mattel isn't poor, but they're not just going to waste money in that particular way.

I honestly believe the differences in the face are just factory variations - I doubt that was anything intentional on the part of Mattel or the factory itself.

The cross I'm less sure about. One is definitely more translucent than other. I don't know if that's due to the paint or the plastic mix, but either way, the red of the more opaque one is definitely more prominent, and I wonder if that's what Mattel wanted - the more translucent cross, while cool-looking imo, is a bit washed-out.

Yeah there are some pretty distinguishable differences between the two figures. The head is clearly different somehow, but the one on the right, to me, looks to have some different paint apps at the least on the overlay. The gold buttons look slightly different, and the cross doesn't look to have any translucency at all.

Maybe it is the camera and lighting?

I took both pics, and I can confirm they are different in person - it’s just weirdly difficult to say how they’re different aside from the opacity of the cross.

The right cross does have some translucence - it’s just very weak.

i cant tell if the second face is wider or if it’s just the angle and paint. But it kind of looks like he has a stronger jaw

Whats weird is I am SURE mine has the head of the left one with the clear cross, but the more opaque cross from the harness on the right.

@NORM I think the difference is the eyebrows and paint work on the mouth and eyes themselves. The eyebrows are the biggest difference, and its not a MASIVE one IMo.

it's just a different print design on the face, that's all. They probably did an early batch with the first one until they realized it didn't come out that good, likeness-wise, and decided to go back and make a new face print. I honestly like both, one looks like the actor, one looks more "comic" like.

Teela packaged pics. Nothing new, but man, she comes with 3 weapons, extra hands and an extra head? I mean she's a bit smaller than the boys but it almost seems Mattel is compensating for something. Hopefully the new He-Man they're showing in the package comes with more accessories too. A yelling head and open hands, maybe an axe or something different would be nice.

Also, individual Ram Man:

Looking forward to their execution of a female figure. Hopefully she’s got some good functional butterfly joints and range at the neck and torso.

Teela looks great. Really excited for her. And man.. seeing a modern movie MOTU packaging that still says 'heroic warrior goddess' on it. No notes. Perfect.

I do wonder about the He-Man. I would be surprised if it's NOT just a straight re-fresh to keep the basic He-Man on pegs. That's a solid strategy. One of the biggest complaints about every MOTU line ever is basic, regular He-Man not being available.
Also, I don't think he can actually pull off that pose? I'll have to check again when I'm at home.
