Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

Yeah, it was probably an early batch or something. I do kinda want the clear cross one now... It looks way better honestly. But idk.

Saw a video review from Mad Hatter and he pointed out that the Skel-Knight is two different shades of grey as well. There is a lighter grey and a darker grey (he had one of each). I believe it was the Core class version.

That's the one I have and I don't think the translucent cross is actually super noticeable most of the time anyway.

I got my ordered Target He-Man figures and I compared that He-Man to the one I bought at the store. They’re definitely different. One has a darker, more translucent cross and (imho) better face printing. I’ll post pics later.

What wave is Skeletor supposed to be in? Will he hit Target? Trying to figure out where I will cap this line if I dive in but Skeletor would be a "must".

I have Battle Cat in my car. I had the idea to return my final unopened NECA Gargoyle figure to Target, get store credit, and use it toward BC, but I have no receipt for NECA Gargoyle and I guess I'm officially "that guy" because they denied my no-receipt return because I've done too many in a year. I thought about asking my wife to use her drivers license, but that could potentially open a "So how much are you buying and trying to return with no receipt?" can of worms and that's not worth $45.

Also, as predicted, I was never able to get a Chronicles Scare Glow. If anyone has an extra, I'm interested.

There, I think that's all my MOTU thoughts for now.

Thanks Poe Ghostal.

The one on the left definitely looks way more like the actor. And that is the one I have 2 of. But I like the one on the right. It just slightly resembles the actor but almost looks more like some New Eternia take on the new Movie He-Man. If that makes sense lol.

So what's different here? Is it the placement of the eyes? The hair? Is the sculpt totally different between the portraits? It's like they were made in different factories, which I wouldn't put past Mattel.

I think the eyes are different - the one on the right's eyes seem a bit narrower, maybe the pupils are a bit smaller, and the eyebrow placement is slightly different (and maybe they're also a bit narrower). Overall the effect is just to look less like the actor.

This reminds me a bit of how the early 200X He-Man figures had the cross instead of the "H" symbol...

The only way they were made in a different factory is if the production run was stopped, Mattel moved the tools to a different factory, and then restarted production. There's no way they have the same tooling at two different factories, nor is there any way they moved the tooling back and forth between two. Way too expensive. In all likelihood, they noticed some issues with the production run and did a running change but didn't scrap what had already been made because that would cost them tons of money.

I was thinking in terms of the history of Mattel MotU figures, with figures being made in various countries. I guess today that wouldn't be the case. But odder things have happened.

I could see different figures using different tooling being made in different countries. Like, it would not surprise me at all to learn He-Man and Scare Glow, who share no tooling, are made in different countries. But moving tooling across countries -and- producing extras of the same tooling, are both wildly expensive processes.
