G.I. Joe Classified One-A-Day Beamish-Style Figure Poll - #289 - Headhunter Stormtrooper/Keel-Haul (RAH)

Like Synapse, the fact that he's wearing a jacket-vest is kind of an immediate turn-off. It looks really dumb to me. If his arms were the same color as his jacket piece....maybe? But it's an unenthusiastic maybe.

his colors and such, I imagine he made a matching companion for Crimson Asp
Canonically, she’s his daughter. So yeah.

Not a big fan of Crimson Asp, either. Both these characters were created by the collector’s club to re- or pre-use special parts for other figures (that really *is* Cesspool’s head, and Asp’s head is actually Steel Raven) and they both feel a bit Irish stereotype-y. I don’t know that the CC in general was much good at creating original characters.

But at least Synapse’s is sleeveless, rather than “vest over shirt”.
Which I say as someone who wears sleeveless jacket-vests pretty much every day.
🙃
Sans the cyborg-zombie bits, I’d totally dress like Synapse just as day-wear. Sleeveless purple military jacket?? Hell yeah. I’m gonna pretend it’s leather. And that the black pants are leather.

But yes ol’ Coils there looks like he’s going to St. Patrick’s Day-themed weekend skiing event.

I had no idea! (No sarcasm)

That's all completely fair. I want them just for being Irish, I admit it. And Crimson Asp is a named female character who isn't Baroness or Zarana. I would love character on both sides with Irish backgrounds, and yeah, we don't need to lean into the stereotype side of things at all, but I hope characters like Sundown, and I guess maybe Wolf Spider even (who REALLY needs a file card still), and technically Synapse, are a great start toward new characters from other countries.

See, probably worse for me here, being colorblind means it doesn't even read as purple to me. It reads as blue. So he looks like he's trying to be an edgier Cobra Commander with the fancy blue jacket.

HA! If that was how I saw the colors, I would totally agree with you, sir.

Let me blow your mind:
-his mechanical parts are blue steel
-he has gold accents
-his tunic is purple
-the open flap of his tunic is HOT TEAL.

So he is black/purple with pops of teal and gold over blue-steel, corpse-skin and a shock of white hair.

He’s actually got a lot of design throwback to Baron Heinrich Zemo in his costume design.

It is, indeed, the colors that seal the deal for me here. Fucking bummer, man.

Irritating.

I see gunmetal, a really ugly shade of gold, a blue jacket, and a flap that my mind can't even identify with a specific color and just reacts with 'ew.'
Edit: And I'll add that the shades kind of blend a bit for me with him, so everything just looks muddy (colorwise, not actually covered in mud, obviously). Like.. dim, I guess, like someone turned down the saturation on him until things all got closer together despite being different colors.

That genuinely sucks.

This figure pops like hell but is very much reliant on the color scheme to do that. I would be, frankly, crushed if I was perceiving it that way.

. . . I really need to remember to take that into account when appraising these figures. I take my perception for granted, and that’s not cool.

I take my perception for granted, and that’s not cool.

I don't think there's much way around it. It's hard to just sit and imagine how other people see things (literally, I mean). I'd say it would only really not be cool if you used your perception to say 'you not liking this/thinking this is ugly is objectively wrong.' Which you never did. You didn't even seem to get annoyed at how much I shit on the figure when it was revealed, without even knowing what I was seeing. So that's a good thing.

Day 289a - Keel-Haul - (RAH) (6/28/26)

Getting away from the weird and back to RAH with Keel-Haul!

Keel-Haul is badass.
Put him in a two-pack with Talking Battle Commander Hawk: top-brass, cool jackets, rocking that official-issue headwear.

Day one purchase for me. Keel Haul is one of those "never had it, would have committed a felony to get" figures from childhood.

Day 288a - Rick & Pilar - (Animated) (6/27/26)

Ruffians from the classic episode, Cobra's Candidate!

I'm in! There is very little I enjoy more than multicultural street gangs from the 80s, except maybe punk gangs from the 80s and grimy Australian biker gangs from the 80s. People just had more friends back then.

Keel-Haul: Obviously. This dude's pure rugged.
