G.I. Joe Classified One-A-Day Beamish-Style Figure Poll - #276 - Serpentor (V4)

Oooh.

To be fair, the early 2000s also had a lot of 'entry level' Goth kids that had to take what they could get. I knew a lot of kids that shopped at Hot Topic just because they couldn't really afford to go anywhere else. But no doubt, it was also the era of Mansonites and Korn Kids.
I definitely picked up pieces at Hot Topic from time to time. Although actually in my town it was more the kids who *could* afford it who shopped at HT, as opposed to thrifting and DIYing which was more the norm for the goth rank-and-file.

This meme seems to be a bit of a dig at the “basic bitch” darkly-inclined white kids with (some) money of that era.IMG_0448.jpeg

Definitely different where I grew up. Most people seemed to have enough money for Hot Topic stuff, and the better-off goth kids were shopping in fancy magazines and even, gasp, early WEB stores. My first 'goth' boots were Docs sourced locally. But my second and third pairs were ordered online - New Rocks and gosh... I think Pennangalan (sp?) Dreams boots? A ton of my clothes came from clothing catalogues and shit. International Male was a treasure trove of goth fashion if you knew how to look.

But, at least where I grew up, thrifting was more something I -heard- about people doing elsewhere than something I ever met anyone that actually did it.

That meme is dumb. Not like 'I'm offended.' Just.. dumb.

I gotta say, I would not buy a Doc action figure that's just a big red X.

Edit: Now that the picture is working, I gotta say that that the big red X would have made a better figure.

I find this Lifeline way more generic than I'd normally like (I really prefer his bright red look), but he feels like a decent basic medic look.

International Male
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a LONG time. A long time.

That was my mid-20s, but yes definitely I bought a bunch of things from that catalogue. Their leather was *garbage* but it was all I had. I did my solo performance final in acting conservatory in a LARP-y leather jacket I bought off IM.

I also didn’t even know Hot Topic existed until I was a freshman in college in 1996, when my stage manager (a fellow frosh who was an LA local and a goth and very hot) took me on a drive to Montclair Plaza Mall.

As for that Lifeline . . . maybe.

No.
And definitely not as a Retro release. That spot is reserved for finally getting an ARAH-colors Serpentor out there without the chariot.

Maybe, but maybe not.
Day 275a - Low Light - (V3) (6/14/26)

New week, for Different Versions! Yeah, we got a figure of him, but he's a different version. That's why it's Different Version Week. Fuck it, I'm tired.

Fishnets and bullet head? I'm in.
Don’t be fooled by the monochrome. There’s like four or five separate and distinct subcategories of goth represented there, and that’s itself a very small swath of the grand diversification within the subculture.

Day 276 - Serpentor - (V4) (6/15/26)

Different Version for the Cobra Emperor! Retro? Whatever; time for another.

THIS will be the one they release on a Retro card, and piss EVERYONE off. I can't wait.

Heh. I remember when they released that stripped-down Devil’s Due design TWICE before eventually (poorly) retrofitting it to be “classic”, back in the 2010s.

I’m open to it, but it’s lower on the list of Serpentors I want: a retro release, a comic-colors release and a “Cobra Island” shirtless version are all higher priorities, as well as that black repaint from the two pack years.

I'll be honest, I wanted to have a Serpentor for this week, but already have two comic versions for two different upcoming comic weeks and another version for a cartoon week, so this was kinda it.
