Prices have always been weird with these guys. There's a lot to complain about with the line for sure. My love for armored knights is what keeps me coming back, but I do agree that the re-use is getting beyond tiring.

Was a bit disappointed to see the barbarian wasn't on the pre-order list for today, oh well. Nothing for me - the Gladiators look kinda fun, but I just cant do floaty shoulder pads with no backplate/chestplate - my logical brain just cant. And I have enough shirtless dudes in my collection of Frazetta figures and such.

Ordinarily I would enthusiastically agree, but my god do 4H's women leave something to be desired.

I can picture it now: spellcaster body, staff, and Mar-a-Lago face.

Their prices are entirely arbitrary, I swear. It's 40 dollars for the Edgehounders head pack with the Cosmic Legions Vorgga figure, who is a great figure that comes with a lot of HEAVY items, but the armory gladiators are 45 and entirely parts reuse.

The Edgehounders pack, like all cosmic characters packs, is just an incentive item to move old, over stocked inventory. They’re just trying to clearance them out without clearancing them out.

As much as I like a lot of the cosmic legions stuff, they must be sitting on so much stock given they have done the head pack to move old stock thing multiple times now.

I have the dream of making my own Myths & Legends line of action figures, and the first series would be, of course, King Arthur and the Knights of Camelot. I have kinda designed a couple of figures and planned out the whole series. They would be historically-inspired, with some Excalibur fantasy elements to them. Way better articulated than mythic legions.

Not sure how to do it since I haven't yet learned how to sculpt in 3D (I do know my way around clay though), I have no funds or industry contacts, and I don't live in the US, to boot. But one day I'll find the way to do them.

Have you contacted Four Horsemen directly? They seem to be supporting/collaborating on many Kickstarters on the technical side for themes they might not cover themselves. For example the new Pirates fantasy-themed KS - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/406936874/tiderealm-corsairs-fantasy-pirate-action-figures, and in the past with the Biblical Adventures and the Legends of Ramaya Kickstarters. Not sure how it has worked but may want to reach out?

Granted they seem to be going down that road of Camelot themselves so this might not be an option.

I don't know if any of those lines (pirates, ashen oath, etc.) have had any real success. They all seem to get buried in the avalanche of 4H releases. It feels like the 4H come out way ahead; getting paid to consult/help with the development of a line, then just crushing them in the womb by dropping multiple pre-orders and sales for their own stuff while the kickstarter for the line is ongoing. Why pledge for 4H-like stuff when the audience for 4H stuff is presented with 4 or 5 opportunities to get actual 4H stuff in the same time frame?

Better to do one's own, unique thing, I'd say. Just look at how much better received Savage Crucible stuff has been in comparison to any of those lines.

I agree for what you want to do - it may be too close to what 4H already does. But I don't think the themes in the Ramayan or Biblical Adventures stuff had any real overlap with 4H so I doubt their releases impacted those Kickstarter.

It feels like the 4H come out way ahead; getting paid to consult/help with the development of a line, then just crushing them in the womb by dropping multiple pre-orders and sales for their own stuff while the kickstarter for the line is ongoing.

Only mentioned it because it seems like they could help with the development and practical stuff, which is probably the bigger barrier to entry than financing or themes or collector interest.

I have not (I honestly didn't even know you could do that!), but I'm not sure how much they would like to work with me since we would be kinda be dealing with similar themes (and of course, they're a big indie studio, I'm no one). I love their sculpting work and the amount of paint they add to their figures, but their style is a bit too exaggerated for what I have in mind. I would like to go for a more realistic, historical approach, with a touch of styling and fantasy of course. My hope would be for people to buy both MLs and my line, even if they are different stylistically.

Sorry, I wasn't referencing that! But it would be very fun to work with you on a line of figures! I'm still thinking about it, but I kinda would like to call the line Legendarium (very Tolkien, I know). My first topic would be historical knights, both early and late medieval, also doing some of the German Gothic armors, since pretty much no one but the 4H are doing knights and I love knights so dearly. And what better story to base it on than King Arthur's epic? I actually already wrote out a whole sort of "sequel" to the popular myth, just to make it more my own and to justify doing different versions of the characters! I have plans to fully write it out one day, as a fan of the stories myself and of the many different versions, it would be a dream for me to create a "new/fresh" version of it.

But I would love to expand upon the themes for further waves! I'm thinking what you could call historical "vikings" (berserkers!) and their mythology (imagine a historically-inspired mythological version of Thor and Odin!), the Greek myths, the Native and Latin American myths and designs, I even want to do African inspired myths and even Christian and Jewish myths! There is so much fun stuff to base a line with, especially when referencing history with a bit of fantasy! And of course, Beowulf would have to be part of the line too!

I did a few designs already a few years ago, I need to redo them again with better quality and the improved articulation schemes I'm thinking of right now. Maybe if I get to it and post it online, I can get some people interested in helping me out? I honestly don't even care about the money side of things, I just want good figures of the stuff I like. Pretty much nobody is doing these sort of things, especially historically inspired stuff.

This is largely in line with the sort of toy line I've always wanted to make, although my idea was a little broader - it would offer "generic" versions of all sorts of characters, from myths and legends to retro sci-fi heroes and Western cowboy types.

On a related note, I have a question: is anyone into the Mythic Legions lore? I've never really looked into it, but it's always felt sort of tacked-on. I find the line more appealing when I can imagine the figures to be characters from my own imagination. That said, I understand why the Horsemen do it - you need to call the figure something to distinguish it from other figures, and a lot of collectors do expect some sort of name/bio and so forth.
