Covers Better Than The Original

The Genesis song Jesus He Knows me is a good one with a great video to accompany it, but the Ghost version is something I didn’t know I needed in my life until I heard it. It just kicks all kinds of ass. It’s age restricted, so you’ll have to head to YouTube if you want to see the actual video. I’ll link an audio version too.

"Better" in this case may be completely subjective depending on how you feel about the Beatles, but I rewatched Across the Universe after not seeing it for a while. Might just be me, but hot damn are those covers good. "Let It Be", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Why Don't We Do It In The Road", "Because", etc.; not really a bad one in the bunch if you ask me. If you've never seen the movie, I'd recommend it- definitely quite trippy and abstract as it goes (maybe even a little too artsy, but that's Julie Taymor for you), but the covers are still really good outside the context of the film, so give it a listen if you haven't.

I CANNOT get into musicals, but oddly that movie is the only one I can think of where suddenly people break into song and it doesn't jar me out of it at all. But yeah, their versions of some of those songs aren't.... necessarily better, but extremely listenable. Little Help From My Friends is fucking great, and I love their version of Dear Prudence. All You Need is Love is another. Yeah, Let It Be is really effective and heartbreaking. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, I mean... of course I love Bono. And Mr. Kite is just wonderfully Izzarded up. Even Hold Your Hand, which I say 'even' because I really tend to prefer their later stuff.
