Covers Better Than The Original

I saw Henry Rollins on a speaking tour right before Shatner's album released and he talked about recording I Can't Get Behind That with Shatner and having a lot of fun goofing off with him in the studio.

Madeleine Peyroux's cover of Elliott Smith's Between the Bars.

Was listening to some Adele earlier, and her cover of Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love" came on. Bob's a legend, of course, but it's a night and day difference in the song, you ask me.

As great as the George Harrison original is I think I prefer Galaxie 500's version of "Isn't it a Pity"

Can we do someone's version of a traditional? If so, I LOVE Sinead O'Connor's version of one of my favorite songs, Oró, Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile
I liked it when The Corrs and The Waterboys would do some nice takes on more traditional tracks as well.

Sinead's album of jazz standards "Am I Not Your Girl" is awesome by the way.

Hm... Maybe she can make me enjoy jazz, I'll have to see. And have likely heard Corrs and Waterboys but will definitely seek them out as well, thank you!

The Corrs first album (Forgiven not Forgotten) has a few traditional Irish tracks as instrumentals arranged by them, along with their own pop songs; The Waterboys did two albums (Fisherman's Blues and Room to Roam) with mostly their own stuff but some traditional covers with a semi-traditional band line up.

A few favourites though I could have kept going far, far longer in all honesty.

Orbital: Doctor? - I was always disappointed they didn't get the boys to do the music for the revival, as opposed to the overblown orchestral bobbins they did go with

Primal Scream: Some Velvet Morning - not a huge fan of the Scottish Rolling Stones but this is a banger

Bananarama: Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) - the gals at their endearingly shambolic peak

David Arnold and Pulp: All Time High - how to turn one of the very worst Bond themes into something good? Give it to Jarvis, turn up the sleaze then wig out at the end, simples

and finally, I don't think this one is better than the original because the original is absolute crystalline beauty beyond perfection but I do love this take on it.

Linoleum: I'm In Love With A German Film Star

I get so much mileage out of Midwife's Glycerine cover. Never cared for Bush but that song was one of the first I learned by ear and just hits me different ways depending on how it's executed. You know that Seinfeld where Elaine's boyfriend disassociates to that song? That's me with Glycerine, any version.

I also prefer Greta Stanley's Everlong.
