Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

By the by, Amazon shipped my Mantenna and AE He-Man, but not my Mosquitor. Yet the shipped ones say they'll be here Tuesday, and Mosquitor Monday...

It sucks that they're going to start everything from scratch, but on the other hand... the Chronicles figures, at least so far, look better in every conceivable way, and I MUCH prefer 1/12 over 7 inch.

I had to wait a long, long time for Evil-Lyn and Keldor figures that scratched my itch in Masterverse, hopefully Chronicles doesn't take nearly as long. 200X Evil-Lyn is the exact design I want though, excluding the 200X alts. Those are basically 1/12 now, right? I'm on the verge of grabbing her on BBTS but that's all that's really stopping me.

Man, I'm excited about these Chronicles figures, but absolutely hate that Masterverse is going to end what I feel, and I'm sure others do, very incomplete. Granted, I never expected to ever get anything again like MOTU Classics that would dive so deeply into all MOTU lore. But like Damien said, we won't likely be finishing the 87 Motion Picture main lineup, and I don't see any way that they finish the vintage collection lineup either.

Stonedar, Rokkon, Rio Blast, Blast Attack, Saurod, soooooo many Snake Men, Multi Bot, Modulok. There are a lot of characters from the vintage collection that never got any kind of Masterverse figure be it Classic, New Eternia, Revelations/Revolutions, or whatever. It would have been nice to at least wrap those up. We didn't even come close to the vintage POP collection or New Adventures. So, it doesn't feel as bad not wrapping those up. But we felt close on the 87 film and vintage MOTU collection, and I just don't see any way in 1 year they wrap that all up and complete them.

Very bittersweet. Like I said, excited about Chronicles and its possibilities both for the film and classic MOTU representation in toy form. But sad to feel so incomplete with Masterverse after collecting for so long.

But I will stay with Masterverse until it's done. I have it all to this point, and there are some beautiful figures in the collection.

I doubt many people could be more upset than me about the end of Masterverse. I barely buy the figures. But it's been my DREAM to have the main cast of the '87 film in action figure form and now this is the second time a company started and failed to deliver. I'm legitimately gutted. Sure, some people with Masterverse collections might be upset that we won't get Rio Blast.
But we DID get him in both MOTUC -and- Origins. And we know they'll revisit classic designs again and again in the future. How many more chances will we ever get at the '87 movie? Maybe none. Fucking gutted.

BUT.. yeah.. the Chronicles figures look to be quite a bit nicer than even the best Masterverse figures. It's hard to argue that this isn't the right direction if Mattel wants to hold onto adult collectors while competing with stuff like Marvel Legends, Joe Classified, and Star Wars Black Series.

Yep, I'm almost completely caught up on Masterverse, starting over from scratch last summer. It's one of the few lines out there where I get excited with every new pick up--no matter what year that particular figure was released. Just having fun piece-mealing the collection.

So, I'm in until the very bitter end.

And I'm in on the Chronicles offerings.

And God damn it...in on Mondo's 200x line.

Especially if this ends up being NECA's last year with Turtles, and the rumors of Mattel snatching it up end up being true. These will gain my primary focus.

~quietly posts a link to Rick's own thread where he talked about having to slow down on collecting and get rid of a lot of stuff~

Believe it or not, I have unloaded quite a bit. I just got rid of some DC Multiverse (I've got a Silver Age Superman still, if anyone is interested. Loose, but complete).

Got rid of some old Marvel Select figures. Sold some NECA. I'm getting there.

Oh wow, kinda sucks to start all over again. to be fair, the masterverse line had skinny limbs. this new line has fuller limbs, which is good.
now we gotta see cartoon figures with this new "cronicles" line

This, this and this. I'm holding out some level of hope that we might be surprised by a Saurod, maybe a Teela or even (a figure I know a lot of folks want) some Shock Troopers through Matty Creations but any chance we had of a more robust sub-line is clearly gone and it's a diggity-damn shame.

That said, the five we did get (with the Ramen Toy Dolph head, at least) are pretty solid and I definitely prefer them to the ol' Chunky Buck Classics so I guess I should be happy with what I got.

I’m reasonably fine with Masterverse ending and the scale changing. I’ve used MOTU with 6” all the time and imo it’s mostly ok as they have a giant roided out aesthetic anyway.

What I think Masterverse has done way better than most toy lines is little details on the figures and good accessories but, I frankly have grown to really dislike most of the bucks over time. They were pretty fine when they came out but now they feel bad.

Received Dragstor today. He’s fun. I’m not positioning his arms extended in front of him when he’s rolling. I’ve got them down at his sides, elbows bent slightly to allow the wheels to make contact with the ground. It’s a more balanced center of gravity. I like the engines on his back, I’ll never use them as a weapon/crossbow for him. His head sculpt is really great. I don’t think I’m really aware of what this guy looks like. I never noticed the curved “tusks” on his face plate. I hope they make New Eternia Extendar to counter Dragstor. Looking forward to receiving Adora, who should arrive by Monday. Both were POed at Amazon.

Thanks to everyone who pointed out all the heads are very swappable on this line. I got an extra bearded He-Man and an extra viking He-Man for under 20 bucks total for the pair. Swapped the bearded head onto the viking body and now have my PERFECT Masterverse He-Man. Just by luck he also has the smoothest, best joints I've got from one of these figures so far. Even his skirt doesn't impinge his movement. And as a bonus, the viking's helmeted head looks hilariously fun with the battle armor - I thought I just had a spare body but he's really very fun with that head swap.

I got Abercrombie Tee Shirt Keldor today too. I don't like the white shirt, it's so dumb, but the rest of the figure has crazy levels of personality. I really like him enough to forgive the weird shirt choice. That being said, WHY did they NEVER match any Skeletor skin tones? I have a spare Revelations Skeletor (someone gave me him as a gift when I already had one) and his skin is more purple-blue than Keldor. I wanted to use the melted face Keldor comes with on a full Skeletor body but his more green-blue so the color difference is noticable. I think maybe New Eternia Skeletor would match but he's still going for about 20 bucks (and I just shipped my damned POL). If I can find him cheap I'll pick one up though.

Adora showed up today, and while I like her a lot, there isn't much to write home about. I don't plan on displaying her as Despara. Promptly removed all the armor, popped the fists on her that I'd typically never use because she has no weapons to call her own anyway. Face sculpt is pretty damn identical to She-Ra, which is great. I think it actually looks nicer here than on She-Ra. I kinda wish she had a sword or pistol or cape or something.

Also going back to Dragstor, there's one thing I wish they did better - range of motion on his neck. It would have been great if they had increased the range looking up, because if he's slaloming on his belly to use his power, it'd be great if his chin wasn't scraping the road as he went. He's the guy that needs better neck motion.

I didn't order Keldor, but if I saw him in person at Target or something, I could see myself caving. I just don't care for the design or options from what I've seen online.

Mantenna and AE He-Man got delivered right after I left the house today. Wasn't expecting them till Tuesday. No one steal them while I'm gone, please.
