ML Secret Wars

I was skeptical from the start about Iceman's new power effects because they shared no photos of them in use. Now I see why:

They intentionally limited how we can use them by having them clip UNDER the wrist. Iceman shoots from his hands, not his wrists. That's disappointing - so much so even Shooting the Galaxy could only get one good shot.

I wish they had included a painted Bobby face - I would like to make a de-iced Bobby but don't want him looking like anyone else on the shelf.

I assumed when I saw the effects that they meant for the hands to be facing down as he's spraying his ice beam to project out and form a slide (a slide which he obviously doesn't have of course). I will just point out that all these paint touches they used for Iceman are clearly why he's $28!

This and Deathbird are the only 2 Legends I'm somewhat excited for, and they couldn't even give her fists! Iceman really should have come with those hands with the splayed out fingers that (sometimes) come with Spiderman, and should have just given him the wrist-ring effects like some of the older characters but done as ice powers, then they can use that effect for the next decade on every character that controls cold temperatures.

I pre-ordered him, but honestly I don’t know if I’m going to keep it. The main draw was the nostalgia for the Secret Wars packaging, but I unbox my stuff anyway. And the Iceman I have is fine.

Pinless joints might be the only reason I don’t cancel this.

I'm still not getting the pinless hype. It's nice but I don't consider it to be something that makes the figures better by leaps and bounds.
My paper- thin reason for rebuying Iceman on this buck that I'm really not a huge fan of is that he's clear. And honestly, after typing this, I may just go cancel him anyway.

What I've noticed is that the limbs themselves are sturdier. I was initially indifferent to the appearance, but I've come around to the cleaner look. To each their own, though.

I've come around on the pinless limbs. It's not worth upgrading on its own, but with butterfly joints or double-jointed elbows, it is.

From certain companies—particularly McFarlane and Hasbro—the pins are a real eyesore.

I did pre order this Ice Man earlier today from Pulse. But I don't know if I'll keep my pre order. I probably will though, since this one is pinless. But jeez, lately everything that has gone up for pre order for the X-Men is just so close to, if not identical to previous releases.

Strong Guy, this Ice Man, the Cyclops/Jean 2 Pack, the Wolverine/Storm 2 Pack, Maximum Deadpool.

But I guess it's been nice honestly. I don't have to buy them since I already have them or something close enough to it, and then anyone who doesn't have them or something similar has a chance to get it.

Hopefully we see Secret Wars Wave 2 shown during NYCC.

This buck is just no good, though. The low shoulders and gaping crotch gap and the 0% body fat upper legs (which granted you can't really see on clear Iceman), pinless isn't saving it. And we're getting a double dose with Silver Surfer.

Just opened Iceman. This is easily one of my least enjoyable MLs this year.

First, the clear plastic is a total distraction, you can see every mechanism inside him, every joint, every peg, it all makes for a figure that’s just hard to look at and understand what’s happening.

The ice shooting effects are so strangely done. They’re so short. He has to really crouch to get them to reach the ground or the crappy old slab of ice previous Iceman figures came with. Clipping to the wrists is ok, it still looks like the ice is coming from his open hands, but the clips are loose and just sort of hang from the wrists.

He comes with fists, an extra angry head, and a shitty little snowball that will likely fall out of his open hands. He also comes with the lenticular shield with his non-powered and powered likenesses.

WHY CANT THEY MAKE A DECENT ICEMAN FIGURE?? It’s not that hard!

Well... this is every single concern about the figure I had leading up to actually getting mine in hand so... Great lol

Likely they will take this figure and do him in blue maybe with some brushed on highlights (possibly not since they're cheap) and re-release the figure and say it's the one we've always wanted. Then give us the same patch of frost-bitten grass for him to stand on and the same power effects.

I'm interested to see how this Iceman looks when backlit by blue light.

We can get a giant translucent Phoenix, but Iceman, one of the characters with a signature power effect throughout decades of comics gets a "slip n fall" patch of ice that's the bane of elderly joggers.

Why didn't they just make new hands with blasts coming out of them. Or hell just glue them into existing hands. A barely light blue one with a light "blow / dusting" of white would be ideal. Just enough to block some of the translucency if they go that rout. I dry brushed my Walgreen Human Torch a little more red to make him pop. It dialed back the translucency a good deal but didn't make it all go away. It did hide a lot of the joints. Obviously I brightened his flames too.

I actually hope we eventually get an updated Bobby Drake figure. That old X-Men classics was difficult to track down and is super outdated at this point... but a de-iced Iceman would ne nice to get.
