Toy Room Display and Organization Ideas

Dusting: get good make-up brushes, work better than compressed air IMO & with a lighter touch, too.
I actually started doing that a few months back, and I love it. Works way better than any wipes or anything, and no chance of leaving any sticky residue. Especially for some of the more high-end stuff- Hot Toys, statues, etc., it's my go-to. My main hassle is just taking everything off to dust the shelves themselves, since doing so is not only time consuming, but can lead to disaster with one wrong move. I really do need to invest in some shelves with doors.

Oooh, great idea. I'm taking that advice.

They are worth every penny. The Billy's with the doors aren't bad for the price if you aren't going for something more elaborate. I feel like they're just cheap enough I don't mind modding them. I really need to expand the mods I have on my current ones. I've basically just dust sealed, but I've though a lot about lights and other upgrades.

I've got a few figures spilling over to the top of my display case. Does anyone have a suggestion on protecting them from dust? I'd like to throw a clear plastic "box" over the top of them.

I'm not opposed to leaving them out in the elements if I can't find a solution I like. I'd prefer that to something ugly.

Your mileage may vary, of course, but I used to have a pretty decent clear acrylic box that I put over the top of a shelf that lasted me a while. Just went to Hobby Lobby and found one that matched up a little smaller than the shelf, but there was also a place nearby (can't remember where) that would cut acrylic panels to custom sizes. Just note- they don't easily survive topples off the shelf. 😅

What sort of figures are you trying to protect? Something higher-end that you wouldn't want to get as risky with?

I think that's where my eventual ancient Gods display is going to end up. I have the 4H Anubis on pre-order and a third-party company just announced Athena. I'm not worried about protecting them so much as I'm lazy and don't want to dust.

The acrylic box route mentioned is a good idea. Check out this Ikea box (made for sneakers, it's even stackable!) that should work and is a relatively cheap way to solve the issue in the short term. You'll have to seal the finger hole on the one side, but there's a thousand ways to do that which won't be ugly and which would give you the functionality of a higher end piece of storage for less than half the cost. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/skuffen-shoe-box-clear-30532356/

Piggybacking off this, I use these from Amazon. Stackable, clear, they have a door on hinges and I haven't had to dust inside of them yet and I've been using them for quite a while. They don't have any openings, and the walls fit tightly together: https://a.co/d/f7kkB6I

When standing up, they're wide enough for 2 1/6 scale figures to stand comfortably next to each other and still have space over their heads.

Oooh that's a good solution too. Probably better than the shoebox ones.

I like the corners on those shoebox ones, though :ROFLMAO: they look nicer. But yeah, these work pretty well and they're clear enough that from across the room you can almost forget they are there. I tend to turn mine around so the door is facing the wall.

Gotta second these! I've got a few and sometimes you can't tell the figures are sealed behind plastic. I hate the feeling that my home is a museum with things behind glass, but these work really well and don't give me that feeling.

I haven't tried make-up brushes as dusters but I use paint brushes. The longer handles are super helpful/good with reach. Never damages anything.
