I won't be surprised in the least if the Democrats somehow manage to get back all three branches of government in 2028 that the supreme court will suddenly have a change of heart and all the power they are giving to Trump et al will suddenly once again be unconstitutional and they will say things are different even though they are the exact same justices who ruled the other way.
I can guarantee it. We saw the same double standard at play with Trump 1.0, Biden, and now Trump 2.0. Republicans are the legitimate voice of the people and Democrats are illegitimate non-Americans. Biden wasn't even allowed to cancel student debt.

I saw a Bluesky post the other day that said the Court has to be first priority for the next Democratic administration. Surely not, I thought. There's too much democratic reform to do. But they're right. 1A) Appoint the nastiest liberal legal pitbull in the country to prosecute everyone in Trumpland, 1B) Pack the Court, add term limits, remove and disbar all sitting justices, or all of the above. They'll block everything until you do.

Declaring the president as king is treasonous. Removing the gang of six is the very least the next Democrat can do. SCOTUS justices require the same 2/3 Senate vote for impeachment, which is where the Insurrection Clause comes in. It won't be hard to find evidence against them by the end of Trump's term.
Under a functioning legislative branch, this guy would be impeached immediately.

The worst part is there's literally nothing he could do to get impeached. Nothing.

If you want a sliver of good news, here it is:

That's a populace that's ready for reform.

Nope, damnit, the gifs aren't working. I may have to go hunting for some figures or something.

Absolutely THIS. Much more, but absolutely this.
We need to get to a place where we treat MAGA stuff the way Germany (traditionally) treats Nazi stuff. Because it’s the same stuff, and also because yes ultimately we need to fully criminalize MAGA. They can shriek about double standards all they want, but the kindest thing we can do is *only* criminalize it. As others have already pointed out, the punishment for the ringleaders must be more severe. With due process, but much more severe is what I will say.

Unfortunately the whole "history repeating itself" is probably what would happen.

Instead of learning from the mistakes of the civil war, the Dems would probably go down the easy route that most countries go down after strife. Forgive and forget so we can move forward.

The problem with that is that it just kicks the can down the road. I mean the north won the civil war and most of the leadership for the south went on to be community leaders in pretty much all institutions (government, colleges, etc.). So they got to continue spreading their beliefs for generations. Same problem happened in Canadian history where the British, to keep the peace, made a deal with the French and we have had basically a whole separate country within our borders for generations.

I understand that you do have to have some amount of forgiveness and reconciliation to move forward, but it can't be to such an extent that the whole ideology continues to fester. Your Germany example is probably the best example in modern history. I just don't know that it could happen in the US.

Anyone still got a guillotine lying around somewhere? It worked for the people before, after their ruler incited a civil war, why not this time? Not even saying we gotta use it, just to stand ominously outside their windows at night like a spooky John Cusack.

If I had any faith in our leaders, I'd hope they learned their lesson not dropping the hammer of god on Trump and his cronies four years ago. But they'll still try for reconciliation and finding common ground and we'll all be taking it up the ass again in four years when they elect an AI deepfake Trump to his third term. Stack the court, make it 87 judges, impose term limits, air ALL THE DIRTY LAUNDRY, release every fucking document and email and slack message and onlyfans donation these fuckers sent while in office and let the public own it. Because we still, even if they stuff Miller's mouth full of garlic and expose him to sunlight, will have to live with the fact that too many of our neighbors were perfectly happy for this to happen and perfectly happy for it to happen again.
