Storm Collectibles

Not like there even IS much.

There's 18 playable characters in the entire franchise, and counting alt looks (namely Midnight Bliss, Morrigan/Lilith alt outfits, and Dee) and supporting characters (Anita, Le Malta, Mei-Ling, etc) that makes like 25 characters. 30 tops, if you really stretch and include more alt outfits. Everybody's essentials are whoever has shown up in crossover Capcom fighters (+ Lord Raptor), and that covers over half of those core 18.

Given who the Stalkers are, I really do wonder if it's just gonna be them because there's some SNK vs Capcom license gymnastics at play vs having actual Darkstalkers.

I finally got my Arena Kennethington and Ryulysses in today. Opened Ken first and had to hop over here to talk about him. Jeez. JEEZ. These guys feel *great* in hand. Hot damn. Strong enough to hit a stance but they move like butter. The hype on these was dead on. Imm'a need that Akuma ASAP. I kinda want Dan now.

It feels a bit bad but once I had Ryu and Ken, I started wondering if I needed Jada.

I waited on Jada because something about the sculpts didn't quite speak to me. I've always eyeballed Storm's other stuff, but it was always just a little outside my impulse buy range. The Arena line was seemingly built to make me an instant convert. Making a figure this good for this cheap is staggering.

It's REALLY good.

So, I don't know how the figures will age, but a lot of it is the plastic selection. The stuff that should be soft (gi, hair, upper torso under the gi) is soft, and gets out of the way. The plastic all has a matte or satin quality that sort of evokes the hand-drawn promo art. There's also just a lot of good engineering choices. The joints all seem functional and well placed. None of them stand out too much. Popping and swapping is easy, but I don't feel like looking at the figure sternly will cause something to fall off...

It's just a really good figure. I'm not even a super hardcore SF guy, I just have fond memories from the arcade days mixed with that SF 2 anime movie.

I was excited for the Arena line, but it really felt superfluous. I was content with the Jada stuff, and SFII Turbo was what I grew up on. Sure, I had and played Alpha 3, but SFII was my jam.

...and then Storm had to go and release pictures of their Sagat.

I looked on the shelf at my Jada Sagat.

Then I looked back at the Storm Sagat.

I looked back at my Jada Sagat...

...then back and my phone and enlarged the Storm Sagat, and had a flashback to that opening scene in SFII the Animated Movie.

"Oh", he quietly says to himself.

I'm finishing SF2 because it's legendary for my life period, but my competitive years wear in Alpha 2 and 3. I'm happy to commemorate both.

Would still love Jada to try 3-6, though.

Yeah, for me I'm only ever going to be picking and choosing. I'm not going to grab a full roster. For me this line is great because everyone in SF2 is in Alpha 3 iirc (and I mostly prefer their Alpha looks anyway).

Since I've already gone so hard into trying to have my "Player 2 colors" for Jada, I definitely can't with Storm Arena. I'll stick to classic colors only, and hope I don't prefer the extra parts too much (though if they're colored for the repaint, and don't have the alts colored for the originals like Jada, that'd make it even easier).

The stands that come with these figures are odd. They push the figure so far forward that they stand on the edge of the disc which is the only bad spot. And I had a figure using the plastic grip for a couple weeks, then when I pulled the grip-clip out, the plastic shattered in half at the point of the V. The metal grips work okay at least. I mean they're basically free extras so I'm not complaining too much.

Yeah I'm a little sus on the stands. That said, I've not had any issues at all getting these dudes to free-stand, even in high kick poses, so I'd only be using a stand if I needed them to do an areal move.
