Playmates Vintage Rereleases

Playmates REALLY needs to release Bebop again for those who need him that is fully painted like the original. That last release missing all the paint apps was a disgrace, mean spirited, and overall stupid.

Anymore though Playmates seems to do a good job with the paint apps. The last retro TMNT figures I've bought like the Military or Sports Turtles have all been great. The Military Turtles didn't have their sculpted-on guns on their belts anymore though. Luckily, all I really bought the Military 4 Pack for was the Navy Seal Mikey. As I had all the other Turtles actual vintage releases. And Navy Seal Mikey seemed to be identical to his vintage counterpart.

I only had Raph growing up, but definitely didn't know this.

Sigh. Goddamnit, guys.

And even if the originals weren't astronomically priced, I still prefer the concept of a rerelease, because then I don't have to deal with 40 year plastic breaking down.

Sigh. Goddamnit.

I'm guessing Nickelodeon isn't crazy about realistic guns being associated with TMNT, be they accessories or part of the sculpt. It's even hit NECA. I wonder if that means a character like Monty Moose, should he be re-released, would no longer come with his revolver? My memory says it was pretty much just an accurate looking gun, but in yellow. I'm also curious if this is a new thing, or if it just applies to product sold at mass market retail. Super7 definitely didn't have any trouble getting guns into Ultimates.

Yeah, Green Beret Raph had a holster with pistol as part of the actual figures sculpt at his waist, and the Retro release does not have that. The Delta Team Don had a holster with pistol on his black rubbery belt that is removable. Whereas the Retro release did not.

Otherwise, the paint deco is all there I believe, just no holster with pistol on Raph and Don.

So I managed to pick up the Chrome Dome and Scale Tail re-releases tonight. I didn't see Wyrm or Antrax, but I don't think I've heard of anyone finding them? I never had these two as a kid, so it's pretty neat to mess with them. Chrome Dome can't stand for shit, but I am impressed that Playmates actually vac metalized the figure.

Looking at photos, these appear to have all their proper paint apps and weapons with them. Which kind of frustrates me to no end, because why is it so inconsistent with this line and Playmates? Why are some figures missing a weapon or two? Why are some paint apps just removed completely (Bebop's shoes!)...or released with it, then removed later? Yet these guys get everything nice and proper. I just don't understand.

Does Walmart usually list these single releases online? Or are they in-store exclusives?

No, but in the past BBTS and EE have put up pre-orders for a set of a 4 figures. Haven't seen it for these yet, and there's really no guarantee it will sadly. Everything's so wonky now.

Seems like a lot of places try to get you to buy sets and cases with cheaper figures. It’s annoying.
