I was late to the game with Mythic Legions so thus far I have passed on them but I saw my opportunity to get in on Cosmic Legions from the beginning.

Here's a thread to discuss the new (and old) releases.

I do wonder about the future of the line though. It doesn't seem to be even marginally as popular as Mythic Legions. Has anyone heard any kind of official comment on how the line is performing for them?

I don't follow the lore for either Legions, but I'm definitely tempted to put together my own crew.

Not following the lore and making your own crew is definitely the way to go. I'd imagine you'd feel less compelled to pick up everything and overspend.

Not gonna lie, I have no idea what any of the lore is for this line, but I've loved every figure I've picked up so far. Kind of building my own headcanon for everything instead of being a completionist. Not sure how it sells compared to Mythic, but BBTS did have most of the earlier figures on discount a few weeks back.

One of the big things that draws me to the Legions lines are how customizable the figures are and part of that is being relatively unencumbered by weighty lore. They make a great sandbox for my imagination to play in, which is why I have a mob of goblins, a squad of skellies, a gang of ghouls, and a crew of cosmic ladies.

My one complaint about Cosmic is the lack of human faces so far. I actually LOVE the alien face sculpts and think the paint apps on them are glorious, but I just want a John Crichton-ish human or two in there to be the regular guy amongst all the strangeness. I've kinda made the blue-skinned Attila head figure that for me but he's still not human-human, and while I love a good head swap (I've done SO many head swaps in Mythic) it's a bit pricey to scare an extra, say, magnus head to pop onto a generic body.

I did ding up one hand trying to pop a gun into it the other day and really annoyed myself (I dinged up Slygor a bit, snapped his mace in half trying to put it in his grip). Debating whether I want to spend 20 bucks to replace the mace or just call it a lost cause.

That's a good problem for the line to have. I'm a lifelong Star Trek fan, but my one ongoing complaint is too many humanoid species. They tried to explain it once as being an ancient race that seeded humans on planets throughout the galaxy, but I really dislike that ret-con knowing that most space fiction chooses humanoids because it's cheaper and doesn't alienate the audience as much.

I don't like Farscape as much as Star Trek, but I REALLY loved that show due to how alien and varied the species were. The Cosmic Legions figures thus far are even more alien than the Farscape characters, and I really respect that about the line.

I'd love for Mythic/Cosmic to put out more heads more often, especially as single releases, like the dwarf head they separately released for the Mythic viking wave. That one is going for $10 at BBTS, which is a great deal IMHO.

My opinion/tastes only, but I think they struggle with normie headsculpts. They are great at animals, creatures, dwarves, goblins, rugged men (especially bearded ones) and aged men, but their females are really hit or miss and there's not a lot of different sculpts out there. Like, Boss Fight included three heads with Red Sonja. I'd take some younger looking men, and a variety of women. Extra points if they start doing pop and swap hair.

Looks like the next Cosmic Legions all-in sets are shipping. I'm really hoping I like them a lot in hand, cos I'm weirdly, deeply not excited for this particular shipment.

The way the Horsemen phrased that announcement made it sounds like the singles hadn't yet arrived at their warehouse so I hope it isn't a multi-week delay between shipping the all-ins and singles. I'm super eager for the two ladies in this wave to ship and I'll probably pick up the Scapeback alien doggo once they're available on BBTS.

The scapeback is definitely the one I'm most curious about. I don't think I have an alien mount type creature in my entire collection anywhere.

I’m really looking forward to the bulkier spacesuits, especially the short green alien and the regular height female. It does sound like shipments will be spread out between the All-In’s and the single orders. Hopefully it won’t be as long in between as the latest All Star wave in Mythic. They said retailer release will be October 15th.

Got the complete wave and cracked it open tonight and in a really hilarious twist of fate, what I like about the set is ENTIRELY flipped from what I bought it for.

  • My original must-haves were the "married" miner couple, loved the head sculpts and clunky armor. But in-hand the heavier armor isn't as much fun (to me, personally) to mess with and their hands are so thick I can't get any gear into them. I love the head sculpts though and I'm wondering - would it be absolutely crazy to put the bare heads (without the gear) onto those old Wave 1 generic bodies? I have a couple of TUSSC figures with just the original helmets on and I like these two enough I want them on more mobile bodies.
  • I thought the little green alien dwarf would be shorter and kinda... cuter? But he's beefy AF. Which is cool, but again, the hands are too tight, I can't get him to hold any gear, and his armor really limits his leg movement. But the head sculpt is amazing.
  • The spy in the coat I was very psyched about buying and she dioesn't disappoint, except my ony real criticism is she's got enough cool looks for two figures but only one body. I love her unmasked head so I want to stick with that, but he helmet is very cool. Also some beautiful paint apps on her arms and torso are wasted under the coat... but the coat is possibly the best soft goods item 4H has included.
  • I got the little scavenger alien because I thought he'd be funny but wasn't super hopeful about him, but he's a HOOT, and he's stacked with weird/cool stuff. I couldn't stop posing him.
  • The Thraxxian / green alien I only got because the all-in snookered me, but honestly, he's lovely, really fun to pose... I know he's supposed to be a generic "monster" alien but I kinda like him as an alien shaman type.
  • The lowland scapeback is a little awkward, but he does something SO unique in all my collection that I can envision him showing up in so many displays. It's just so rare to get a weird, beefy, well-articulated alien beast. I'll probably have Ben Kenobi hanging out with him or something this weekend.
  • But of all things, the HIGHLIGHT of the set? The camp gear. It's so good for not just this crew but any sci-fi setup. the computer terminals are amazing, the portable engine is rusted and grimy... I'm already plotting photos to take with it.

Anyway, TLDR, kinda meh on the ones I really wanted, far more into the ones I didn't, but a visually interesting wave overall.

I’d be curious to see what those miner heads look like on the TU5CC bodies if you ever try that swap. Glad to hear your thoughts on the wave.
