Last Series Watched

As such, we didn't watch The Simpsons growing up. We're not watching all 850+ episodes, but we are watching a hand-picked list of the best episodes
I'm left kind of wondering... why, though? What's the impetus for someone with no connection to a show like The Simpsons to decide to just pick it up and watch some episodes. I grew up on it, myself. I watched longer than I would have if it hadn't become rote behaviour. And honestly, I have no desire to ever watch it again after being out of it for the last... 7 or 8 years, at least.

When we're not watching anything current, my wife and I like to pair an old drama with an old comedy. The Simpsons is our comedy right now.

It has a massive cultural footprint. While there's not enough time in one lifetime (or three) for us to justify watching 850 episodes, picking 15 or 20 episodes gives us a sense of the show, its characters, and some points of reference without committing a huge amount of time or energy. I did the same thing with Star Trek: TOS in college.

As a pop culture obsessive, I hate blindspots. I can't hear about something in or around my wheelhouse without wanting to give it a shot. Battlestar Galactica. Buffy. Twin Peaks. They're all on our drama shortlist. We'll watch those from start to finish, but you don't really need to do that with a sitcom.

We're also getting to the point that we're running out of great stuff to watch.

Now you're making me feel like my rationale is thin...

My wife is a huge Buffy fan. I hate the show so much.

I just finished watching Scavengers Reign on HBOMax, and I'll just say... maybe don't.

It's constant anxiety until an unintelligible non-ending.

Buffy is at the very bottom of my priority list. I tried it a decade ago and gave up after a handful of episodes.

I'm admittedly a Joss Whedon fan. Ashamedly now, but a fan nonetheless. Firefly rocks.

Damn. One of my favorite shows of the last five years.

Firefly is one of my favorite shows of all time.
Buffy is an entire show of an 80-year-old man in a 30-year-old man's body trying to write dialogue for 20-year-olds playing 16-year-olds. It's fucking trash.
The only two good Buffy episodes are the silent one (big surprise) and the musical one. Don't even bother watching the rest.

I tried it ages ago, after Firefly, because of Firefly, and couldn't get into it

Same, entirely. Firefly is still one of my top three shows of all time. I love the shit out of Serenity.

And now they're doing a reboot, which I admit I'm curious about but more to have something to possibly watch with my kids.

I have nostalgia for Buffy because my brother and I watched it religiously together, which looking back is hilarious, two absolute THUGS sitting down every Tuesday night and refusing to do anything until the episode was over. But I also haven't watched it since it aired live. I've got that weird almost photographic memory for story so I don't really want to rewatch the whole thing but it's been what, thirty years? I could stand to rewatch a few episodes and see if I remember it as well as I think I do.
