NECA '87 Toon TMNT

Bah, my set arrived damaged. Michelangelo has a busted left arm where the peg for the bicep swivel is split and it's barely hanging on. Time to see if NECA's customer service has improved at all...

Good luck on the long journey ahead, you will need it. If you get nowhere with email, try calling them: (908) 686-3300.

Ah, hell, I was going to wait til the weekend to open this set and now I'm nervous. Guess I'll be opening it up after work to QC it. (I didn't open up the Dracula figures I got last week but at least those weren't direct from NECA, less of a worry.)

I’ve been down this road before. It took some persistence, but worked out in the end. Fingers crossed it will work out again.

I've checked out the non broken turtles a bit and compared them to the Stump Wrestling set and was surprised to find they don't really share parts. Maybe the arms? The Archie turtles are just a touch bigger and even their hands and feet are different. I was expecting them to be the same with a different plastron and shell, but nope. I don't really care either way, I was just surprised. I think NECA could have used the same buck for the most part, but I guess they felt they should be different. Nothing appears to be carried over from the original sculpt, aside from maybe the innards that you don't see. One thing I don't like is that all of the gripping hands have horizontal hinges. I know this set doesn't include things like swords and such, but I hope that doesn't mean they left that out entirely with these new turtles. The hats are pegged on which kind of sucks, but expected since no promo shots showed them without a hat on. These bodies are chunkier and they don't look bad on their own, but I always felt that the turtles were a little too big already in the line and this magnifies that issue.

I also have a minor issue with Raph's left arm. The bicep fits a little loose and I can't tell if it's damaged. The shoulder hinge is stuck, but I'm not going to do anything with it until I hear back from NECA regarding Mikey. If they want a full exchange then he'll just be going back. If they plan to send me a replacement Michelangelo then I'll heat it up. I can't tell if the black on his hat is applied properly either. There's a black dot in the center and then a line on each side which goes down the side of the hat. There's also a sculpted seam on the hat which is at an angle and I can't tell if the paint app was supposed to follow that line or not.

The elbows on Raph and Mikey on mine are SUUUUUUUPER tight. I was able to move them with heat but once they cooled down they weren't going anywhere. Don't really want to use shock oil because of the fabric involved on both figures. Rest of the parts move fine. Bit of a step backwarde cos man the Stump Wrestling figures were top tier perfect.

The Stump turtles had shock oil in the elbows and knees, which I had never seen before on a figure I had received from NECA, and it sure seemed to help.

NECA got back to me quite fast. They want me to send it back and supplied a prepaid label. I dropped it off this morning. They said they would either send me a new one or issue me a refund once they receive the defective set. It depends on if they still have stock which I assume they do since this didn't seem like a big hit with the fanbase. Last time I did an exchange with them it took them awhile to send me a new order. I had to follow-up. Hopefully it's smoother this time. So far, no complaints.

Got the Beach Bros opened up and checked out the new bods. Everything moves nicely, I like the new sculpts and the colors are all great lookin'. I did have to heat up like, two arms, but that was it really. The surf boards are so much bigger than I expected, and boy that's a lotta hands... I think this is a really fun set.

I have two packages from Diamond in my delivery manager in label created stage. I was hoping one was my replacement vacation bros and the other the Archie April, but they both have the same dimensions as my original beach set. Hopefully only one actually gets picked up because I definitely don't need two, but this is NECA...

I just got around to opening Samurai Usagi Yojimbo. Fun little figure! Feels more posable than the original. I wish he had ANY place to store a single weapon, but nope. Maybe I can find an unused black elastic band from another figure to wrap around his waist.. I just noticed his bio on the package is written in Haiku! Clever. Now I'm tempted to get Panda Khan to go with him...

Wasted no time picking up Panda Khan. Helps that he was only $35 when I expected him to be $50 like Archie Ace Duck and Mirage Chote. Still chuffed that I went with Walmart on those two, and ate $8 each on shipping. Both are hanging out at my Targets.

Haven't opened Panda Khan yet, but I look forward to the juxtaposition of these two. PK is a BIG boy.

Got my beach set replacement today. This one seems fine. Only issue I have is that one of the surfboard stands is too loose, but I can live with that. Finally got Mikey's shorts off in a totally platonic fashion to get a good look at this new turtle mold from NECA. Seems fine, but there is a huge gap between the upper thigh and the waist piece inside that is rather unsightly. I wonder if they plan to fill that with an overlay for future figures that won't have soft goods to cover that up? There is a gap on both the old toon body and the Archie one, but not to the same degree. Now to figure out what I'm going to do with this set of beach turtles.

All of my boards were loose fitting on the stand and wouldn't stay in a pose. I took a tiny piece of paper towel and wrapped around the ball of the stand and it tightened them all up.

I 100% think that gap is meant to have a rubber overlay or something. Kind of like how the other turtles don't have shells and are just the bare articulated bodies with bulky overlays, I think Mikey is "bare bones" for the shorts to fit proper.
