Mattel DC Figures

So, I think the problem a bit for you, and the industry at large really, is that the current buying power engine for these lines are the people who grew up with the JGL style guide as the template and thats what drives the nostalgic urge to collect these things. The number of people who read the books in the Silver and Bronze age DWARFS the number of people reading modern books - that is coupled with the fact that the people with the most disposable income currently inclined to buy these action figures have the nostalgia for those looks. So while you feel they have been 'done to death' I promise you sales numbers will bear out that they sell through better than figures based on the most recent comics.
Oh I’m not remotely in denial of this. Facts are facts. Numbers don’t lie. It’s simply a matter of taste. And whether or not I’m willing to spend money on it anymore. It’s the reason I want to see at least one outlier character in the first collector edition reveals. One non legacy/heritage character. Booster Gold, Animal Man, Adam Strange, etc. Just one bone. S’all in askin’ for. Pretty please?!😁

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek, but I'm actually SUPER about the idea of creating some kind of system where we're encouraging/demanding more diversity of these companies - especially in the crucial first few years of a line. Show the fans that this line is for ALL of them.

Also a Buffy lifer. You tell no lies.

In any ensemble cast, I look for it since I grew up with 80s X-Men where women and different races and cultures were a basic part of the package. Rarely a deal breaker. Like the above quote, I get it for most cases.

For Mattel, one woman a wave is a reasonable minimum. DC has many top tier women in pop culture outside of Wonder Woman. And many of them are Bat or League related anyway.

Agree, I thought at least Wonder Woman or Supergirl were locks for the first wave of the kiddie line but here's hoping the adult line fares way better.

Same thing happened with Mortal Kombat collectors once Storm Collectibles and Todd stopped making figures, people started selling off their collections immediately.
That's an interesting point of comparison here. I'm not usually a sell-off kind of collector, but I can see it a little more for a fighting game line. When you're working on a finite roster, like literally a group of characters with a selection screen, and they just don't get to a good chunk of them I could see where you might be okay pitching them. Because someone's always going to try again with MK or Street Fighter anyway.

But I dig Rex's approach, almost like one of those art books that shows you Batman Through the Years. Mostly I'm just collecting characters I like or building little themed display scenes or whatever - I love accessory packs, playsets, themed bases, whatever contributes to a full scene. I think I'm at high risk for being a foam diorama builder and the main thing in the way right now is space.
