General Toy Nostalgia

Thanks a lot guys. Because of this thread I am now in the middle of watching the Inhumanoids cartoon movie. Have to say I am not really enjoying it all that much. I like some of the story elements, and hearing a bunch of the ARAH voice actors, but overall I am giving it a 5/10. Oh but I do love D'Compose's ability to transform people (especially Sandra) and how they all seem to call humans "fleshy slugs."

Up next after that will probably be Robotix episodes since they were recommended (probably because of watching Inhumanoids).

Having read through the last 6 pages of this thread I'm surprised how much of the content is totally new to me. I was aware of maybe 15% of the toys mentioned.

One of my brothers had a red Mantech figure. I thought that was a fun one.
I still have my Starriors figure, I think the wind-up function is broken though.
I gave away my Visionaries figures and that is a line I would abso-fucking-lutely go in on.

Can't believe I forgot about those. I had a few of them and thought they where so cool and interesting, but I think I get them when they where being clearanced out. The Marvel Comic Mini Series was pretty wild too.

And in doing a search for this picture I found out this was a sub-line of ZOIDS. Makes sense.

While perusing one of my local secondhand shops the other day, I came across a couple of the old Warriors of Virtue figures. Hadn't thought about them in years. Don't know if any of you remember the movie- it's pretty terrible- like if someone took the kangaroos from the Tank Girl movie and made a Power Rangers-esque, elemental kung fu movie around them- but I was obsessed with it back in the day. By today's standards, I'd say it's "so bad, it's good". Angus Macfadyen chews the hell out of the scenery, spits it out, and then chews it up again- truly one of the silliest, most bonkers . I had a couple of the Roos back in the day- the wood and the metal one; I wanted the fire and water one, but could never find them, and wasn't allowed to have the female one, as usual. The whole thing is something of a guilty pleasure for me- so terribly 90's in all the best and worst ways. The toys themselves were actually pretty well made, though. And the fact that they did basically the whole character roster feels like a product of a lost age. I'm half tempted to try and track down a full set of the Roos, just to put that part of my inner child to rest. 😅

Six Million Dollar Man had some great stuff in the 1970's.

My favorite was this - part rocket, part surgical module - the various tubes had connectors that could go all over the place and connected to the "bionic" parts on Steve. Or you could put Masketron in there for interrogation.

I really wanted the critical assignment legs and arms - I had the arms, but never the legs. I mean, who wouldn't want an exploding leg?

The cool thing, until it would inevitably break, was the rubber skin you could roll down the arms to cover the bionic parts on the arms. You really needed the repair station to swap out Steve's arms and legs.

And don't get started on a bionic, alien Bigfoot that was 14" tall...

I really should find the arms and legs at this point...
I think I had all of these except Bigfoot when I was a kid. Never did find him.

Thank you guys for posting all of this stuff, it's been a fun read! I missed out on most of the late 80's/90's boom of cartoons & toys to sex/drugs/& rock&roll, and it's been a fun discovery for me.

Some of it has been vaguely familiar and I'm tempted to watch some episodes of these shows like canprime mentioned above, but hate that I know they will be bad I'll end up feeling like I wasted the time lol.

The WoV movie came out while was working at a theater. The material they showed during prerelease got me so psyched for it. I think that movie was the disappointing of all my two years working there.
There's a chance I still have some of the free swag tucked away.

Capitol Critters, based off of a short lived prime time TV cartoon show. About rats and cockroaches that live in the White House.
Never even heard of this show, but I guess there is a modern reboot. I see it on the news every day...lots of rats and cockroaches in the White House and the Capitol.
Did any '90s kid NOT have Stretch Armstrong?
I had the original version, as well as the Stretch Monster, from the late 70s/ early 80s. I think I was the only kid who DIDN'T have them break and spill their gooey insides everywhere.
Waaay out into the weeds, but:

I will never be able to replicate the feeling of being 16 and driving a car full of karate buddies and The Girl I Liked to a late-night showing of The Crow on opening night. Ahhhh.
When the original Crow movie hit, I was going through my first long term relationship coming to an end. I saw it several times in the theater...it consoled my broken heart in the most gothy way possible. It was exactly what I needed at that point in my life. "It can't rain all the time".
