McFarlane DC Multiverse

Masterverse face sculpts aren't exactly 2026 Black Series quality, but I don't know if I'd hold Multiverse up as a gold standard with these lil pinhead sculpts. McF is pretty hit or miss (though the more monstrous the character the better the sculpt, the Ghoul from Fallout is excellent IMO)

I definitely wasn't holding McFarlane up as a standard of any kind, and I quite enjoy many of the Masterverse faces. It's just that the ones that come with the figure Ace was talking about are ass, and I wanted to mention it for those in the back

I set an alarm and got Zatanna before BBTS sold out. I also clicked on the Wally Flash even though it said "sold out", the item page had one in stock so I managed to get him too.

That said, I understand and agree with all the Todd criticism, his ego makes this line no fun to collect.

Yeah. For my money, my core issue with Mattel across the board is still gonna be execution.

My issue with Mattel are two-fold, and worded much more longer and worser than you, so buckle up buckaroos:

1. The last time they had the DC license, they put out some real stinkers the last year or two. And that was before Todd acquired the license...Mattel (at a specific moment in time) had no idea they might lose it and they were still putting out shit. Eventually it culminated in the epically bad Dick Grayson Batman. Now, do I really think new DC figures will suffer the same fate? Of course not, Mattel wants to make sure they keep the license around this time so I'm sure they'll put effort into it. My issue is that before they knew they were losing the license, they didn't give a shit about it enough to keep it good.

2. Having said that, I do worry about their "effort" after seeing their MOTU and wrestling lines. I have a bunch of Masterverse, and it's fun. It also feels cheap when you pick it up, and in the year of our toys 2026 they are releasing a figure that looks like Helen Hunt. Not good. Further, their wrestling figures look terrible. Put the Helen Hunt head on a Ric Flair body and you'd be hard pressed to notice. I know they have, what, 3 tiers for that line? Ranging from cheaper to "elite" or whatever? They all look like ass. Now, that's not to say they aren't good figures, and I know many here collect them. But when you compare them to Marvel Legends, Black Series, Classified, and, yes, even McFarlane - (his Cyborg Superman is spectacular) - Mattel's offerings look very much like toys. As silly as that is to say on a forum where adults collect toys, Mattel's stuff looks like toys.

All of this is my opinion, and only my opinion. I'm sure I'm probably wrong, but hey - first time for everything! Someone mentioned "defending McFarlane" and I don't think it's "defending" him to point out that it sucks nuts that Mattel got the license back. If DC wanted to go with someone else, fine with me. That's business. Could have gone with Jada, could have gone with NECA, could have gone with We-Don't-Suck-Nuts-Toys...but they went with fucking Mattel lol That's the definition of going back to your ex because you remember those couple of times when the sex was really bomb, but you've forgotten how she'd ride your ass afterward to pick your toys up off the floor.

You never go back to your ex. Anyway. That's my thoughts.

After rewatching Mad About You recently, I am all on Helen Hunt’s side against men. I think I screamed “fuck you Paul Buchman, and also fuck you Ira just because you are creepy and annoying” about a hundred times in December.

I personally have no "hate" for Helen Hunt, but my hot take is that the only thing that I've ever liked her in was Twister... and that came out in 1996 when I was still in college as an undergrad. She's very "unmemorable" to me as an actress. I doubt my two 20-something year old sons would even have any idea who she is.

I've already decided that the Masterverse figure that started this discussion is never going unmasked.

Not to turn this into a Masterverse vs. Todd thread, but at the moment, any MOTU figure who isn't looking up into her own eyebrows like the last Teela does is a win for me.

Unless they're doing the side-eye that Multiverse insisted was a "stylistic choice" for a year or so a while back.
