Star Wars Black Series

A stormtrooper pack (with pauldron and backpacks),
Aw jeez... I would go to town on that.
Remember that one Stormtrooper with the HUGE jetpack?
Is it the deluxe crowd control guy from the POTF2 line? I had several of those when they were cheap and just had them without the backpack to be rank and file Sandtroopers back before I learned all the details of the Sandtrooper costumes.

The Shadows of the Empire Swoop with rider, done in Black Series style, is an absolute holy grail for me. All the other SotE stuff they are pumping out makes me so hungry for that rider: he had such a cool look and sparked my imagination SO HARD. I had him going on all kinds of cool adventures, he seemed like he was a real badass and definitely not canon fodder. I figured he was serious competition for Boba Fett and the boys.
Agreed on his look. I THINK it was based on unused McQuarrie art? But yeah, I always hope for that helmet at least to pop up somewhere again. I thought for sure on Rebels or something.

100% same. I gave mine pieces of one of the Jedi accessory packs and sort of envisioned him as a Kyle Katarn style ex-Jedi who had fallen on hard times and moved on to a life of crime. That figure was easily cool enough to have been a main character.

I mean, I know the line has not done well with vehicles, but they made Luke as Couruscant guard. Anything seems possible, even if remote.

That's the one! Yeah I loved that guy. I think we're at a point in Black Series where, if they wanted too, they could try adding some to the galaxy far far away with additions in that vein. Make a specialized, 90's toy inspired trooper for some silly hyper specific mission, Hasbro! Give us some accessory packs. Heck, you're halfway there with some of the stuff coming from the Joe lines.

I would LOVE to get the Shadows of the Empire Swoop with rider in the Black Series. I hope we can get it and Bounty Hunter Chewbacca to finish off the Shadows toys. I loved all the Shadows of the Empire and Expanded Universe figures from the POTF 2 line.

As Ace said for the Swoop Rider, those sub lines sparked my imagination so much. Since we have been getting all these Shadows of the Empire characters that had POTF 2 figures, I hope we get the Expanded Universe characters in Black Series as well. Jedi Leia, Darkside Luke, Clone Emperor, Kyle Katarn, etc.

Ah man, stormtrooper variants are my weakness. I'd be in.

Every show or movie, I'm hoping for new trooper designs.
Yeah, like, I don't per se want to go back to the days of the '89 Batman toys with one mold in a thousand colors... but Stormtroopers and the Black Series are already there, so y'know, in for a penny, in for a pound. Go all the way to the hilt, y'know?

Those older lines eventually did more and more of that wild non-canon stuff. We saw concept Obi Wan and Vader not too long ago in Black Series, and I bet you could do some of the other concept figures again with clever parts use. They gotta reuse it at some point and I don't think they're going to remake the figures from stuff like Solo anytime soon. Maybe it's time to break out those molds and others with some new parts and go further afield.

Take some less beloved character molds like Beckett and give them heads and hands of different aliens, or with cool helmet designs, put a few of them together with new color ways and have a "scum of the galaxy" pack. Just some random Star Wars-y goons to populate your shelves. I'd buy the shit out of that. Take some random Imperial parts and give them a new custom designed head in a weird color and call them something like "imperial psi-ops" or "solar flare trooper" or some other silly-ass thing.

I think I'm just wishcasting all this now because of that rumor about Sith/Jedi accessory packs from not too long ago I saw. I think if that's possible there's more fun to be had.

Right, balls deep as it were. Yeah, concept, army building, background aliens, etc. Benicio Del Toro's figure from Last Jedi is another one you could probably repurpose with alien parts.

Then there's the troopers from stuff like Force Unleashed.

Absolutely to all of the above. We've even had one from Force Unleashed before. There was the Royal Shadow Guard or whatever (the black Royal Guard with the saber pike) in that one 4 pack. They keep toying with the idea, but rarely going farther than a straight repaint.

And stuff like that guard, I would be more into if it wasn't part of a set with three other guys. I get why they did though.
So, I realize that I picked up the carbonized Stormtrooper a while back just because it felt like one of those weird toy only troopers. They sold it under one gimmick, but for me it fit a different one. I grabbed a 3rd party black pauldron, painted it silver, and I've got him on my shelf as some specific trooper commander who had new armor fashioned of Beskar or something. A sort of pre Phasma silver trooper. Most of the other carbonized figures don't work as well for that sort of thing, but this one really nails it.

I think I've gotten past the point, thankfully, where I impulsively buy every variation of every trooper. If I had 'someone gifted me a 400 million dollar plane' kind of money, sure. I'd buy every figure. But with limited finances and limited space - I've been able to convince myself to knock it off. But it's tough. They sure do make almost every kind of Star Wars cannon fodder very visually appealing and toyetic, don't they?

To be fair, I don't get every trooper either... I was, but I had to stop and I did get rid of some. Finally went with 'just the ones I like', not even sticking to an era or production company design or anything.

I think Sebulba might be among my top 10 figures of the year. Certainly for the first half of the year.
