Tracking toy tariffs

His big announcement is not tariff related. He's 'ordering' big pharma that they have to reduce their prices in the US via another EO.

All part of the show. Gotta give his mouthpieces something to tell his base to distract them from how fucked their lives are getting. Doesn't even matter if it works. It's just about saying he did it.
And it won't work. Because practically none of his EOs are things that are actually within the Executive Branch's power to even do.

Is 30% better than what we had before all this madness began? I honestly don't know. Better than 245%, certainly.

It is still a very high tariff rate and is still significantly more than we had before as I understand it, since the first raise Trump did in Feb was a 10% increase. I'm seeing folks reference 1984 "chocolate rations have increased" and yeah, that's the vibe I'm getting.

Also it's just for 90 days right now, meaning businesses won't feel much relief from the uncertainty.

I'm sure some folks who knew this was coming made a killing in the market today. I bet Trump will brag about it even sometime soon.

There's almost no subject that the media doesn't under-report, and you identified what they're failing to report on this topic. There were already tariffs in place, but all the media refers to is by how much they're increasing. That information isn't terribly useful without knowing what the tariff rates were already at before all of Trump's bluster.

Hopefully this will result in the companies that were holding in China to get their stuff over here ASAP. But like others have said the uncertainty is still there so I don't know how much it accomplishes to alleviate the retail panic going on.

Based on the NY Times article I'm reading, it sounds like the 30% is still happening and that it'll be the case for 90 days.

I imagine companies are going to be rushing to get stuff on boats and in the US ASAP.

Very curious what the timing even looks like for toy companies. Like, I imagine they paused a lot of manufacturing in April because of the tariffs. Can they realistically ramp up production immediately and then get the items to the US within 90 days?

Seems like QC might be interesting for a while, if they attempt it? 😅

I hope this gives Hiya a window to get their imminent releases over here.
