Articulated Thoughts General Movie News & Discussion

Just learned The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum got a release date for December 17, 2027.
After Rings of Power, I can't think of anything I'm less excited about than more soulless Lord of the Rings adaptations.

I get that. I enjoyed ROP more than I expected to, especially the second season... though I can't remember details of it now. I don't really equate it with the movies though... like really great fan fiction.

Christ. The rings of power was a tragedy. I wish they'd just keep their dirty paws off established IP's. Go create something new.

Rings of Power is the only Amazon show I've been really compelled to try. I may give Fallout a shot though.

As a fan of the games, I thought the Fallout show was fine. A 7.5/10. I'm in the minority, though.

Re: Fallout, I never played the games for more than around 30 minutes, so I'm not sure how that flavors my watching experience. I wasn't too high on the show; I did finish season one, but probably won't "tune in" for S2. Sometimes I enjoy adaptations more if I'm not familiar with the source material as I find I'm less critical. Sometimes not. Shrug. Fandom can be a mixed bag.

Yeah, despite using Amazon Prime like nobody's business, I tend to forget about Prime Video. I liked Rings of Power as I was watching it, but I haven't felt much desire to return to it, oddly enough. I think releasing them on disc would probably help my interest, which I know sounds strange, since I can literally watch it any time as-is. I've been meaning to check out Fallout, but with everything else on my list, it keeps getting pushed further and further down.

Anyway, that said- I am cautiously optimistic for Hunt for Gollum. I feel like Andy Serkis being involved is a good sign; not that his filmography is spotless, but I do feel like he's influential enough in the industry, and protective enough of Gollum that he wouldn't let the film get too out-of-whack, or so I'd like to think. It can't be any worse than the Gollum game from a year or two ago, anyway.

This is me almost exactly. About 30 minutes total in the Fallout games. I actually did not finish season 1. I still need to watch the last episode and I'm not sure why I haven't. It wasn't bad and I even kind of enjoyed a lot of it but I'm just not compelled to watch that episode and it has gotten to be a thing I put off like a bad chore. I most likely won't be back for season 2 either. The whole thing just didn't wow me enough to make me want to invest a lot of time in it.

If you're saying the movies are like really great fan fiction - I agree.
If you're saying Rings of Power is like really great fan fiction - I wildly disagree. Respectfully.
I'm struggling to think of any piece of media I've ever watched that was worse than Rings of Power -purely- from a pacing, writing, acting, and costuming perspective. Forget that it's also one of history's worst, least respectful adaptations. It's just a bad show, in my opinion, with almost no redeeming qualities.

Not sure it's a good sign to have Serkis in the director's chair given his big two outings so far were Mowgli and the second Venom movie. Both complete fucking trash. So yeah, protective as he may be of Gollum, his track record for directing shitty movies is like 100%. Maybe 67% if you happen to be one of the 4 people that saw Breathe and were one of that 4 that didn't think it was bad.

As for Fallout; I really enjoyed Fallout a lot and I'll definitely watch S2. That being said, I have no attachment to the games at all and couldn't give a shit about accuracy to the game plots which, to my understanding, contradict each other as well.
