Last Series Watched

You asked for it...
I did, and I regret nothing. Great synopsis. I had similar complaints that you did about the first few episodes (the only ones I watched so far), but I kind of expected it was growing pains and 'let's just lazy our way through explaining Aliens to non-Aliens people and move on.' Very disappointing that it doesn't sound like it moves past that. The thing you said about ultra-armed soldiers responding to a medical emergency is actually kind of where I tailed of and decided to stop watching for a little bit, expecting I'd go back to it once my irritation at that idea simmered.

Now.. maybe life is too short.

I stuck with it the whole way through thinking once we got off that damn ship I'd like it more, and I sort of did... but after it was over it just sort of festered. Now I look back and it feels like I was grasping at straws.

I really do need to rewatch Stranger Things. I remember the gist of it all, and I remember really liking all of it. It's just been so long since the last season that I've kinda lost steam. That said, I am looking forward to the final season, so I'm sure if I started fresh, I could sustain it.

I have never watched a single moment of Stranger Things, and nothing I've ever heard about it, including the full elevator pitch by people that love it, has ever convinced me to even give it a second thought.

It’s really really REALLY hard for me not to like a show that features a Damian Echols expy fighting demons with the power of Metallica’s Master of Puppets. And Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill saving souls. And cute little duets of The NeverEnding Story.

Do I just watch Stranger Things for the music?????

I'm not sure but those are fantastic reasons and solid descriptions. The Neverending Story song is something I have had in my car playlist since I got my first car, heh.

I don't know how you'll take this, or even how you should take it, but when I posted about the show you popped into my head as someone who likely isn't into it.

See, you get me. Lots of other people think I will love it and then proceed to describe in six different ways that make me want to watch it even less each time.

Yeah, I don't think it'd be your bag. I have a good time with it in a "it's pretty fun for TV" kind of way. But it leans very heavily on the nostalgia to paper over stuff when the writing doesn't quite do the trick. I do think the actors are all fun to watch, it's got some good bits highlighting music of the era. But it is at its core a greatest hits album of stuff you've definitely seen before. I think where I give it a pass on that vs, say, Alien: Earth, is that at least Stranger Things is pulling from multiple sources to make a new meal. Alien: Earth can only cannibalize one series and it's not even doing that well.
