Star Wars Black Series

I can't believe they didn't give Palpy the texture on his softgoods, not even printed on. C'mon Hasbro!
Alas, a lot of companies seem to do that nowadays, though Hasbro is certainly one of the most guilty- they'll release something/someone fans have been wanting for a while, but cut a few corners to save money. Then when they've seemingly made their money back, they may re-release it down the road with that small little fix that fans want, because at that point, it doesn't really cost them as much to do. Then again, considering how many parts Palpy seems to reuse, I don't really know how much this set would've cost them to make in the first place.

Mas Amedda is one of those prequel characters that, now that we have both prequel Palpy and Sidious, I'd really love to see. One of the things I really miss in the line nowadays are those tertiary characters like bar patrons or senators. Do I think Meena Tills or Ask Aak would fly off the shelves? Not necessarily. But make 'em a fan channel release and let the fans snatch 'em up. Every day my display goes without Grammy award-winning space DJ Wat Tambor is a sad day indeed.

It's crazy to me that Hasbro does nothing with all of Padme's looks. Aside from Theed Throne which is simple enough to do at retail and iconic enough to make widely available, all of them could be done via Pulse with their favorite upcharge for the privilege. One a quarter, or a three-pack a year - maybe like the Evolutions packs with one from each film - I think they'd sell.

Or - pack a work Padme with alien colleagues and really deco the hell out of both. Mas Amedda, the bald lady, Nute Gunray, other Neimodians, Wat Tambor - plenty of options! They already did this with Cal and Turgle.

But we can't even get an Ep III Padme to round out the cast. Not that it matters - I have no Palpatine to finish my shelf.

I hope when Hasbro gets around to allowing me to purchase a version of this figure, they at least include both heads. This is the first normal Ian McDiarmid head we've gotten in 12 years at this point. If Qimir can have both, so should Sheev.

It still baffles me the figures they decided to release for the ROTS anniversary wave. Some make sense, like R2, Cody, 501st, but I'd have happily traded Aayla and Kit for a Padme. If they'd actually done an AOTC anniversary wave, they could've stuck Dooku there and opened up another slot, but the fact that Anakin and Obi-Wan weren't even included in the retro packaging just boggles the mind. I'm totally boggled.

I'm surprised too that they don't do more multipacks. Heck, back in the 3.75" days, we got multi-packs out the wazoo. If you could think of it, it got a multi-pack. Like you said, it would be a great way to get out figures either heavy on reuse or a little more obscure that they don't think would sell well in the main line. Take me back to the glory days of the line so I can smack myself and tell myself to be more grateful for what we're getting!

I really miss all the side and extra characters too. I would sincerely buy any character from the Prequel or Original Trilogy. I always hope and dream that we get a Black Series figure of any character that had a figure in the POTF 2 line, or the Episode I movie line with the Darth Maul packaging. The POTF 2 may happen someday, but I always doubt we will get a lot of those amazing Episode I figures (and characters from Episodes II and III for that matter).

But Episode I just meant so much to me. I'd love to have Senator Palpatine, Chancellor Vallorum, Sio Bibble, Nute Gunray, Rune Haako, Panaka, Ollie, Naboo Security and Royal Guard, TC-14, Watto, Tarpals etc.

A fan asked the British brand ambassador about this (I can't remember his name, but he's awesome) at the London con, I think, and he basically said without saying they couldn't do the actual characters who should have been in those packages, so they did who they could. The decision had already been made to do the Mustafar SDCC set and they couldn't repeat the characters. But he also asked who would you want to still see on these cards? And the guy let me down by not saying Padme. Grievous, Anakin, Obi and someone else. All correct choices.

They could easily do a follow-up line of another 7:
Anakin
Obi
Padme
Grievous
Darth Vader (like... duh)
Sidious WITH BOTH HEADS (again F Hasbro)
---- someone else - Yoda?

Padme needs new sculpting but awwwww poor Hasbro.

I didn't click it and now it's gone but a few days ago a YouTube thumbnail popped up claiming Hutt Slayer Leia is back in the pipeline.

Any truth?
There has been some rumors going round that some folks inside of Hasbro have said that some of the "off the table" characters or looks are now back on the table. Such as Hooded Cobra Commander for GI Joe Classifieds and Jabba's Prisoner Leia for Star Wars Black Series.

Now, how true that is, and how reliable the sources are, I have NO idea. But that rumor is going around.

I was going through a bin of truly beat to hell older figures from the prequels and POTF and yeah, the one thing Black Series truly loses (I assume because they just make fewer figures at this scale) is that variety. And they'd knock Mas Amedda or other characters out of the park. I never saw the last two Padme on the shelves - she had to sell, right? There's a crazy number of looks for her that I'd buy without hesitation.

Hasbro really does a shit job with anniversaries. Repack a figure with the same form factor for the packaging, but new logos and ink promoting the significance of the anniversary. They did this with Cody/Fisto/R2/Dooku (except they went the extra mile with new packaging) and they looked great and were immediately identifiable and nostalgic. They did it a few years ago with Obi/Anakin/Echo/Hawk were amazing. This should be the what they're doing every couple of years for anniversaries.

Did they say why they couldn't do the actual characters who should've been in the wave? I mean, other than perhaps Padme, all those characters are already done. What better time to re-release the new accurately sized Yoda? I can't imagine it was a Disney thing- not like there's any secret characters or anything.

Just got the Vader/Luke Empire Strikes Back diorama 2-pack in today. I like the diorama and the wired cape, but Vader's cape has an ultra-annoying tag sewed into the cape's stitching. WTF? Never seen Hasbro do anything like this before...
