Georgia also flipped two statewide public service commission seats from R to D, first time a seat flipped since 2000 I think. R still holds a 3-2 majority on the commission but that's a BIG thing in GA. VA also picked up 12 D seats in their house for the largest D majority since 1989.

Starting to understand why a lot of the top officials of the regime are moving to military bases. Mussolini's outcome might look like a walk in the park.

May be an image of text that says 'RESULTS COUNTY BREAKDOWN EXIT POLLS Sherrill Ciattarelli Other White (71%) 45% Black Black(9%) (9%) 91% 54% Hispanic/Latino (10%) 64% 5% Asian (5%) 81% 32% Other (5% 51% 17% Race 42% White (71%) 45% Non-White (29%) 74% 54% 22%'

So I'm not sure this is PRECISELY a political observation, but since AI is killing jobs and stuff I think this is the best place to put it: I was just in a call consulting on an AI policy for a local government and everyone in the call was anti-AI use, heavily concerned about data privacy, had concerns about the ethics of copyright and the impact on the environment, and I swear to you my guts reacted like being in a room full of white people and finding out nobody is MAGA. Like I felt relief flood into my VEINS.

Anyway, the city is crafting a very smart, thoughtful, protective AI policy and also just disabled CoPilot from all its Microsoft accounts because MS has not yet given us ANY evidence that any private data entered into CoPilot won't be used for training their algorithms.

That's legit amazing and so reassuring to hear. I really hope my library eventually follows suit, but right now I'm being a bit carried along in the flow. I am giving a talk in January about AI use in hiring, largely from the end of "this is how people are using AI to bullshit applications". Kind of hoping that turns some people off of it.

It really is city to city--these guys are in a very progressive AND very artsy city so there's heightened awareness about IP / copyright issues and also about environmental impact. The next town over is SUPER pro using it so literally five miles down the street, totally different opinion and I would've been chewing through my tongue to stop myself from talking.

It's been lovely to see all the support coming out for Mamdani here in NY. There's just a good energy in the air- feels hopeful for the first time in a while. Of course, there's still a fair amount of Islamophobia coming out- mostly from the usual suspects, but a few friends/acquaintances that are a bit surprising. I really hope he can do some good and show them that there's nothing to be afraid of, and I hope most of all that nobody tries anything. You just know there's some nutjob out there believing all the racist lies about him and fearing the worst.

But for now, things feel good. And it's lovely to see that the tide seems to slowly be turning in a lot of places- people are just sick and tired of being sick and tired. Yeah, Trump is already decrying the results and claiming election interference (this election is suspicious, but there's nothing suspicious about him winning every single swing state and then some last year? Sure, Jan), but the balance is shifting. I just hope the Democrats fucking do something this time, as much as they can do given the circumstances, instead of just standing around squawking.

I'm increasingly confident that the Republican Party is a dead man walking. I thought so before Trump—and boy did he prove me wrong—but it all might come good in the end. We have a chance to reform our unrepresentative government and build a better America on the ashes of the old one.
I think it's fine if you just want to put Roots down and never go anywhere but not at the expense of denying the world is a varied place and you are not the center.
Don't worry, I'm sure the New York Times will encourage Trump voters to add pronouns to their email signatures and speak to blue-haired baristas in their nearest major metropolitan area.
Of course, there's still a fair amount of Islamophobia coming out
Including Chuck Schumer. Seriously.

Now for some good vibes (?!?!) before we return to state-sanctioned kidnappings:

Friend of mine was telling me that this weekend on TikTok there was a bunch of footage going around from various cities where white women were stealing carts full of groceries and then one of them was screaming that Trump said this was what they were supposed to do on account of the benefits running out.

I have no link though.

I honestly think that on a human, what people want level, the Republican Party lost its last leg to stand on because they're not even taking care of the people they need to bamboozle to get to vote for them. My continued worry is a combination of voter interference, gerrymandering, and literal election theft. If we found out Musk mucked with vote counts in Ohio, etc., ten years from now I don't think anyone would be surprised. It's actually allowing the will of the people to be implemented that gives me heartburn. Yesterday certainly was an indictment of what the men in charge are actually doing.
