G.I. Joe Classified Series

Cesspool was my defacto Cobra leader whenever I didn't feel like pulling out a Cobra Commander figure, or sometimes just because Cesspool seemed cooler. Definitely want a figure of him badly. Salvo is a favorite of mine, too.

Look man, running an international terrorist conglomerate is exhausting and you need a day off. Let Cesspool get some leadership time under his belt, sip some Pina Coldas and have a long earned weekend.

Just been looking at who's left from the '82-'87 period (not counting various vehicle drivers) that we've not had renders of yet and it's:
  • Zap
  • Flash
  • Grand Slam
  • Ripcord (regular)
  • Airtight
  • Iceberg
  • Crazy Legs (regular)
  • Fast Draw
  • Psyche Out
  • Sneak Peek
  • Taurus
  • Red Dog
  • Golobulus
  • Battleforce 2000 (lol)
Looking at this again, so.... Crazy Legs was announced right? And Iceberg, as well as Red Dog and Taurus. Golobulus cannot be far behind. I doubt I'll get any BF2000 guys but I am extremely interested in how those will look in Classified.

Sure, yeah, if you wanna come back to a complete shitshow. Have you met that guy?!

but yeah, I would like a figure of Cesspool as well. Have at him the way they did Crystal Ball where it's the same idea but cooler. And really, as much of a collector of the later years as I wasn't, I'm still always interested in how they'll do those figures. I'll never say no until I see a render, but even then it may lead to an impulse buy later on. I mean, I'll be very surprised if I ever want Ice Cream Soldier, but he clearly has his fans and I would love for that figure to get made for them. I want all the goofy outlandish shit done.

Every once in a while I open up my binder in which I keep my full set of G.I. Joe trading cards, just to see how many characters from that set are still unmade in Classified, and immediately on page 1 there's Cesspool and the Toxo-Viper and the rest of the Eco line. Not until those crazy bastards are made will I start thinking my collection is close to complete.

Not to mention Salvo, Hardball, Captain Gridiron and all the rest of the unmade characters from the trading cards. It's gonna be a while til I can start cooling my heels on Classified, I think.
I LOVE that card set. I wish they had one every year.

It feels like alone among all multi-decade fandoms, only Joe fans cannot even fathom that a part of the franchise can exist that they just don't care for and don't have to talk about. It's always like "I'll only buy this line until the '84 stuff is finished and then everything else is GARBAGE!' No one cares, dude. Nobody. Just let people have the stuff they like.

The only thing close to this is the amount of hate certain old-timers would give to Jim Lee X-Men whenever that team was brought up in ML for many years over on Fwoosh.

I guess you are unfamiliar with Star Wars, then?

I love the hate because it's fascinating. I know older guys that came up with Outback era and Phoenix and Neal Adams Batman and Byrne Superman and tell me THAT was garbage back then and always will be.

All this stuff is so tuned into halcyon days of our youth, and so many wild takes I hear are just... Why is this even your hobby? What was a book you liked?

"Elongated Man Goes to Europe."

Alright.

Nice.... we should all do top three new character lists!

Mine would probably be:
  1. Freestyle (Night Force pilot)
  2. Scar-Face
  3. Munitia
Here's mine, though of you ask me next week it will probably be different.

That Cobra historical perspective video is great stuff.

I definitely think the line took a tonal shift along the way and the designs got sillier, but Classified has been doing such a great job of making characters I never had an interest in fun it's really remarkable. That being said, as much as I love the old-school / retro looks, Battle Force 2000 holds a special place in my heart for making a wildly weird attempt at bridging the Joes with more sci-fi toylines and would love to get them, and the Eco Warriors are HIDEOUS and I would buy every single one of them. Literally my only beef with Eco Warriors is Flint needs a beret if they make him in classified so he can swap hats. Always bugged me neon green Flint didn't have a beret.
