I think this is an "our monkey brains can't handle algorithmic social media" thing.

I can't count the number of times my mom or in-laws asked me if I "saw that thing on Facebook." Your Facebook feed is algorithmically generated just for you. There is no shared experience on Facebook. I think it's a problem with the internet writ large. People think that whatever they see on their social media feeds is reflective of society as a whole. It is not. It is representative of a narrow corner of the internet that the algorithm thinks will keep you on its platform the longest.

Well Trump went around Congress again to make sure the military (and some of whom I'm sure will get conscripted to future stormtrooper like actions) got paid.

Now of course this has happened in the past during other shutdowns. The difference is that Congress actually got off their butts for a brief time to make sure they got paid. This time though Trump just went around them because MAGA Mike won't actually bring the House back in session to even attempt something like that (and of course the Epstein files).

I hope the Democrats can hold strong for another 2 weeks to force Trump et al to have to find more money somewhere to try and pay them again. Of course by then other departments may be beyond the breaking point and paying the military may be small potatoes.
