General Marvel Legends

To be honest, I know nothing of Magic the Gathering, but isn't Shadowfax from Lord of the Rings? I think Magic did a LOTR tie-in a few years ago, so I think that card/character is from that. There could be other horses in Magic, though, I don't know; seems like they'd wanna avoid any LOTR-based royalties in producing a horse. Though, now that I think about it, maybe some of those old ToyBiz LOTR horses could scale decently with Legends?
Even without having just finished all the books (after FIVE years) I can tell you Shadowfax is absolutely a LOTR character. I have him and Gandalf the White from Toybiz in my porch. "Fly, Shadowfax. Show us the meaning of haste!"

I'm not one to use the word "charming" in regards to collecting. Like sometimes you may see a company take the lazy and cheap rout and and apologist might say something like, "The figure's unpainted green-plastic-molded accessories might not be realistic, but they are charming in a way". No, you can keep "charming" and I'll take realism and effort.

With that said, I love my Toybiz Ghost Rider with his motorcycle pack-in. Yes, they had to shrink it down a bit to fit in the box, nothing on it moves or spins, but it is sculpted and painted very nicely and when your eye scans a shelf full of 6 inch figure, 6 inch figure, 6 inch figure, six inch figure.....and you come across this guy with the sweet bike, it pops, you have something different to look at. That, OR an undersized horse, is something I might call "charming". It's not lazy and cheap, they did good sculpt and paint work on it, and they made a compromise to get it into the fans' hands in a cost effective way. I can appreciate that.

Looking at the list of new/unique characters for 2025, and things are shaping up pretty nicely. By my count we have 30 new 616-universe characters in the line this year. I'm including the things we just saw at NYTF in the 2025 count. The characters that have technically already been made from the Hasbro dark ages or earlier (~2012, the Terrax BAF wave) are marked with an *.

New characters in 2025:

  • Cardiac
  • Champion
  • Deathbird
  • Doop*
  • Dragon Man*
  • Electro (Francine Frye)
  • Executioner
  • Fabian Cortez
  • Feral
  • Genocide
  • Gorgon
  • Henry Gyrich (head only)
  • Husk
  • Kaine (technically made as Scarlet Spider)
  • Man-Wolf*
  • Mandarin*
  • Mephisto
  • Nightcrawler (AoA)

  • Rom
  • Sentinel (classic)
  • Shanna the She-Devil*

  • Werewolf by Night*
EDIT: Added Doop, Gyrich, and Mandarin.

I think you could add Henry Gyrich to the list too. He was just an alternate head but thanks to years of generic suited bodies I now have Gyrich on my X-villains shelf.

Has anyone found any other figures Pulse is doing this for? That's a really irritating way to get people to sign up for Premium.
They're doing it for the Mace vs. Palpatine set in Black Series as well, which bugs me. I got excited going to the site to order it, seeing that it hadn't sold out yet, only to find that stipulation. I agree- not the best way to get people to like you, especially once the floodgates open and it sells out quickly after staring you in the face for a month.

Good call! I'm also adding Doop and Mandarin.

I referenced the Hasbro Dark Ages as as the cut-off for this count. I generally am placing that at circa 2012, with the "Return of Marvel Legends" Terrax wave. Arguably, Hasbro didn't really hit their stride for a few more years, but that seems like an appropriate cutoff point. Thoughts?

Mythic Legions horses are way too big from what I’ve heard.

They're bigger than the average horse, but it still works since there are over a dozen horse breeds that are far larger than the average horse with the most famous being Clydesdales or Belgian Drafts.

Here's the 1:12 scale Mafex Dark Knight Returns Batman on the back of the Mythic Legions horse Balius. I think it works totally fine. I also use the Indiana Jones Adventure Series figures with both Mythic Legions horses as well as that McFarlane DRK build-a-horse and it works great.

This actually scales as smaller than some of the largest horse breeds. Here's a quite large Belgian Draft that's bigger than the Mythic Legions horses:

Definitely depends on what you're going for. Personally, I would never stop being annoyed by someone like Phantom Rider on something comparable in size to a draft horse. That seems ridiculous to me. BUT, it's a matter of perspective and I'm sure for a lot of people that won't even be a consideration.

I read his list and was going to tell him Gyrich shouldn't be there because, at best, it's an animated version head, not 616. 😆

It's definitely up for debate! And definitely the whole "extra head" thing should always have a caveat, unless there's a perfect body to make the whole character. Professor X works pretty well for Gyrich. We still don't have Madcap.

I've also got to say, it really has been a banner year for new characters. Great list, @hmmberto
It's significantly better than last year - 18 by my count - but still short of the 2023 total, which was a very impressive 47.
