New York Comic Con Oct 9-12th 2025

I’ve gone every year since 2011 they’ve had one. (They canceled during the peak Covid years.) I lived in NYC for the last 15 years and just moved two months ago, so this will be a homecoming for me of sorts.

Hasbro generally haven’t done panels and instead done the retailer breakfasts at a hotel offsite, but they did do a panel last year and one is happening this year as well. I managed to go to the panel last year. I honestly don’t remember which Legends were revealed, but the Ecto-1 HasLab was revealed at it. That stole the show for me.

Hasbro doesn’t have a big display presence but has had some displays the last few years for the HasLab and now made-to-order figures. I thought the X-Men ‘97 Sentinel they showed last year was especially impressive. It’s exactly what I wanted when I bought the original ‘94 Toy Biz Sentinel when it came out.

Looking through my photo history, I see that I managed to get some photos taken.

The last one is the Lego X-Mansion and Blackbird. Very cool but very over-priced. (Also, likely the only way we’ll get them in plastic form.)

Hasbro also hasn’t really done exclusives at NYCC in many years. The first year I went in 2011, there was a 3.75” Marvel Universe Compound Hulk. And for the years after that, they would have either that year’s Marvel Unlimited digital subscription figure and/or the one from the prior year but that stopped by Covid.

I’m pumped there actually is an exclusive this year, the Super Skrull in early ‘90s Marvel Universe trading card inspired packaging.

Great pics! I'm very happy with the Ramen Racer, but man that Hellcharger would have been a dope toy.

It was awesome to see in person. It would've been a really cool centerpiece for a display. Sad to see how it all went down and all the drama around it.

It was also sad to see it fail because it limited the extent of what Hasbro would be willing to do going forward for crowd-funded and made-to-order figures. Now, we're basically just in a place to get releases that run the range from very large figures to giant figures. It would've been nice to get some non-motor-cycle figures and playsets.

I agree that it would have been a cool toy to have and it could have led to other cool items, but it was woefully overpriced and terribly thought out with the figures chosen and the 24 fund-or-lose Robbie idiocy. I don't regret cancelling my pre-order at all. Plus, I shudder to think how overpriced they would have made other things you mentioned like playsets.

Cool!
If you get to chat with Dwight and Dan (and Jesse), say "hello" from the Articulated Thoughts Crew! :D

I actually think I'll be able to go to the panel (or at least be able to get in line for it).

And in the past I've talked to Dwight. Usually, though, the guys have been unapproachable because there have been like influencers recording interviews with them right by whatever figures are on display.

NECA has been doing some TMNT '87 toon playsets that have been $300 in the last few years. I have them, and they're very large. I'm sure Hasbro would charge more but I think they could still keep them under $500.

I would be hard-pressed to not buy a cool Danger Room for the X-Men. My wallet is glad one hasn't been made. I do have the walls from the Select figures, though.

So, one of the two big dio projects I keep planning for (outside the sentinel factory) is making a multi-tier dio of the Danger Room. The idea I have (so it would fit on my Billy shelves) is to make a series of Danger Room vignettes. Each one is a different X-Men classic battle location (Savage Land, Mojo World, Asteroid M, whatever). And I'd use the training suit X-team in pairs in each one. There's a guy on youtube who did a custom dio where he blended a savage land scene into a Danger Room scene in a cool way to simulate the holograms. I think I could do it with the tools I've got in the makerspace:

I don't disagree with all of this - but at the end of the day, I'd have preferred that the set made it to production and those who wanted it got it. I'm not convinced this was some big watershed moment that convinced Hasbro to hold down prices elsewhere, just a product that didn't pan out.

The Ramen Racer Hellcharger is hella dope, though, so once Mephisto arrives I'll just be a proper Robbie Reyes away from closing this wound forever. I'll maintain a slight glimmer of hope for a true comic Goblin Queen but it's not an overwhelming need.
