Make Your Own Mini-Comic Wave

I'm basing mine on what could be somewhat of a pattern so far (at least the pattern in my mind). Feel free to use your own criteria.


1) Character that takes up the bulk of the budget (ROM, Rachel) - Jack of Hearts

2) Top 10 in the polls over and over again (Banshee, Feral) - Outback Armor Betsy Braddock

3) Update to an old ToyBiz/Hasbro figure (Adam Warlock, Astonishing Beast) - Yellowjacket

4) Low budget but character name recognition (Miles Morales, Silver Surfer) - Human Torch (Jim Hammond)
I went with a more modern cover because the 1940s covers that show Jim at his best have outdated and offensive iconography.

5) Alternate costume or alternate persona for a character we have (Daken, Black Widow) - Dracula

6) A Lister (Iron Man, Daredevil) - Loki (with sculpted scales)

New Mutants Kitty Pryde with alt emotion head to recreate Uncanny 168.

EDIT: I’m going to cheat a little and make one more suggestion because this is a character I’ve wanted to see in figure form since I first read this story in 1993.

Surely original Human Torch would be Marvel Comics 1. Nothing offensive about it and I get he’s not “on model” exactly but the cover is iconic.

Love Beamish's wave, even if I wouldn't be clamoring for another Loki...

And I would buy the helk out of AltCunningham's wave as well. Solid choices there....

Then there's Stoopid Sandwich's list which lives up to his screen name . I would begrudgingly buy a Kwannon and happily skip the rest of that.

I'm going to need a second to think about the wave I'd propose that tries to follow the established pattern

Man, other people's lists hit many of my biggest wants!

Kitty is my number one want at this point, Vakyrie and Mayday hover around the top ten. How about a second?

... last two won't load, but I had "Miss Marvel" #1 from '77 and "Micronauts" #1 (pick your team member to get the ball rolling there).

So here's my stab at a wave, trying not to duplicate anything from other lists:

Budget Heavy: Mantis... we need her, she's going to be expensive to tool. Get her done in classic duds packed with Avengers 114 cover

Top 10 Regular: Attuma - we need him desperately. A good cover is tricky. Pack him with Tales to Astonish #4 cover. Its a reprint of Sub Mariner #4 but with the armor recolored from magenta to gold.

Early ML update - Doc Samson. We need him redone. pack with Hulk 141 cover

Low budget, big name - Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes. They have to recoop on the investmemt they sunk developing him for the HasLab. Do it here. Pack with Ghost Rider (2016) #1

Alternate costume/persona - Nomad. It can be a two for one if you box it with a blond Steve Rogers head but pack in an alternate brown haired Jack Monroe head)

A-Lister - Iron Man - silver and black. More Iron Man is inevitable, at least this is a different color scheme

I REALLY wanted to put Team X Wolverine (aka "spy" Wolverine) in that slot, but the only cover he ever appears on is a Team X / Team 7 crossover. That was a collaboration with Image comics and even though it was written by Larry Hama and drawn by Steve Epting Team 7 is a Wildstorm property, which means its now owned by DC, so using that cover is a non-starter.

And try as I might I can't get images to load using my phone... womp womp

You do realize I’ve been a nerd for about 35 years now, right? I’ve been around the block a few times now, you needn’t worry. Also I have an estimated 3,500 trades and hardcovers from publishers like Marvel, DC, Image, Valiant, Mirage, IDW, Dark Horse, Topps and a handful of others.

I gotta second this. Marvel Comics number 1 is quite possibly the single most important comic book Marvel ever published. The Hammond Torch is on that cover and that's why I want a figure of him so bad.

That said, I don't want Jim to have pointy ears and a devil grin. He only had that look for a very short time. When Hasbro makes him, I want him looking more like a superhero so he fits in with the Invaders and West Coast Avengers. Like this:
