G.I. Joe Classified Series

That's actually a point I have in a few of my cards. Several Cobra agents, like a couple of the officers/troopers, joined Cobra for the ideals it stands for, wanting to topple all world governments, but feel CC has lost his way essentially. A couple of them feel they could redirect the organization the way it's meant to go.
I'll admit I am super biased because I've met too many CEOs huffing their own farts and high on their own supply but I kind of see it as:
  • Baroness: CC is a vehicle to her own revenge, a useful ally but not someone she'd like\
  • Destro: War means profits, and this idiot is a way to create opportunities for MARS on both sides. Not a believer, more of a contractor
  • The Twins: War is good for profit, and they are perfectly situated to manipulate world markets based on Cobra's activities
  • Storm Shadow: A shamed ninja turned mercenary, he's out in the cold and being a hired killer is means to an end
  • Major Bludd: Probably ALSO huffing his own farts, but he's all about the money - he's Nicomo Cosca from Joe Abercrombie's books
  • Firefly: Mercenary, in it for the money, but honestly if he didn't have a financial outlet he'd probably blow stuff up for fun anyway
  • Zartan: Anarchist, not loyal to Cobra but the 'noks are lampreys on the shark, it's a useful symbiosis
  • Mindbender: Cobra is a way to finance his BONKERS science, it's like tenure but better

And the other named Cobra are either contractors or just unhinged dudes and Cobra offers them a chance to engage in their psychosis or kinks or whatever. But there's nobody in the top brass of Cobra who isn't there for their own agenda.

Serpentor, of course, thinks he's a god king and literally everyone else is beneath him, with CC being particularly contemptible.

Official GI Joe insta account just said the generi-cop will be available in the fall:
Every time I see pics of this guy, all I can really think is 'what the fuck is up with those arms?' Am I way behind on modern tacticool cop costumes? Why do they seem to have sleeves rolled up and like a thermal bodysuit underneath showing on their forearms? What the fuck is that?

He's a merc. He can do anything. I put him with Firefly and Destro on the Hired Dudes side of the shelf.
The 'merc' thing is kind of what I'm talking about. I keep my collection fairly small/tight. I don't have a Destro (and won't until/unless we get a proper IG Destro) and I don't own a Firefly (and probably never will). And I don't really want Bludd with named characters, necessarily. I was more thinking of what kind of generic dudes he'd look good commanding as his own little mercenary force. I just can't think of any good stuff that can work for that since most of the trooper types have Cobra logos on them.
To be fair, he looks REALLY good with the Night Creepers. Even their chest armor kind of suggests the same shape as his chest armor. But if we ever get a Night Creeper Leader, I probably won't have them with Bludd anymore.

Just thinking out loud more than anything.

I agree with all your characterizations, but mostly wanted to react to this part... which I also agree with. But for me, when doing the file cards, this is the fun part with explaining what it is about Cobra that attracts them. Sometimes it's the utter freedom, or the whiff of anarchy, some of them have political or ideological reasons, and some are just money hungry and morally flexible, but it's fun deciding who is which.

Yeah.
Rank-and-file Cobra is basically militarized MAGA — it’s a cult, Cobra Commander is the charismatic leader and figurehead.
But like basically EVERY named, individual Cobra is “in on the joke”, plays into the cult but is not actually indoctrinated, and is working their own agenda, be it profit and sadism (Firefly, Bludd), transgressive eccentricity (Mindbender, Zartan), straight-up business (Destro) or something more complex (Storm Shadow, Baroness).

I can't find it now, but there's a live action movie made on YouTube with some guy playing with his action figures, and a large portion is about dragging a captured Bludd through hostile territory with no supplies.

That sounds pretty cool.

I kinda want the cop... but really studied the figure and realized I only want one of the heads to do a Gaz custom from COD.

Perfect summary. I particularly like the concept of transgressive eccentricity for those two. But yeah, the grunts on the ground are bought in either because they think they're the good guys or they're attracted to the power trip, but all the named Cobra are in on the joke and know what's really happening.

My personal favorite "head canon" character is a single Cobra trooper who's basically an infiltrator like an old-school journalist or counter-terrorist living in fear he'll be found out but also like: these guys are NUTS.

After watching a video of a truly astoundingly dumb incident with some local cops last night the town over from me, I look at those sleeves and think they were intended to be rolled up to show off sleeve tattoos but they made them all black like an Under Armour undershirt so they could swap different flesh tones on the head.

And OMG the COMMENTS, truly popcorn worthy. "Did they pull over Doc and Roadblock for looking suspicious?"
"This instagram post has the right to remain silent. Anything it says can and will be interpreted wildly by the fandom."
And this is why they should have just shadow dropped him without an announcement. Of course the trolls are gonna troll no matter what, but they should have just left it alone and released him. That or do what they do lots of times, just announce the day before that he will be available then it is done. This just leaves it for another month+ of the usual comments.

What's kind of funny to me is that CC kind of always came off as a buffoon in the cartoon. Then in the comic the whole used car salesman angle seemed kind of silly to me as well. As a kid and in my younger years I always thought it was kind of dumb that they would follow CC.

Who could have predicted that in 2025 you guys would have a buffoon leading a cult that would become president of the US. I guess truth is NOT stranger than fiction (in this case).

They absolutely should've just shadow-dropped it on Pulse some random Weds at 1 p.m. EST and called it a day, but they were going to get shellacked no matter what. The very existence of this figure in our current political climate was gasoline on a preexisting fire.

Yeah, it's become impossible to shrug off "who would follow this idiot?" anymore. If anything, the cartoon CC is more believable now than he ever was back then. (And it also lends believability that EVERYONE working under him hates him but tells him he's the best so they can move their own agendas forward.)
