Wishlists are like Thanos. They are ... inevitable.
Nobody asked, but here it is anyway.
SD's DC STUDIOS WISHLIST
1) The Legion of Super-Heroes
A Legion live action movie or TV series would be hella expensive to produce and perhaps too ambitious, but maybe as an animated series? Either way, I want one.
2) Deadman
Whatta great concept. A ghost, who can't be seen or heard by anyone, tries to solve his own murder. A Max show would be wonderful.
3) Swamp Thing
Len Wein, Bernie Wrightson, Alan Moore, Stephen Bissette, John Totleben, Rick Veitch, Mark Millar .... Swamp Thing is one of those crazy cool characters that just seems to bring out the best in whoever works on him. I don't think you can do him justice in a two hour movie, though. It would almost have to be a series.
(And I know it was announced as a movie with James Mangold attached to direct. I really hope that happens. Mangold is a great director. I loved Logan. And he seems to have a lot of reverence for Swamp Thing. The problem is James seems to have a lot on his plate right now. Hopefully someone can get it done.)
4) Animal Man
Grant Morrison's Animal Man was one of the best comics to come out of the 1980's. It really was breathtaking. I want a movie.
5) New Gods
Kirby. More you need to know?
6) Sgt Rock
This is apparently already in the works with Colin Farrell attached to star, and you can't imagine how terribly happy that makes me. When I was a young'un, I loved the super guys but I also had a soft spot for DC's war books. Enemy Ace, Haunted Tank, Unknown Soldier and the Losers. Bring'em all on, I say. Rock was the best of the lot, especially with Joe Kubert doing the penciling. I never had the pleasure of meeting Joe in person, but I truly wish I had. What a fantastic artist.
7) Adam Strange
With Silver Age DC, superheroes, war and science fiction ruled the day. Adam Strange is DC's answer to Flash Gordon, a present day character who can travel by Zeta Beam to the planet Rann.
8) Rip Hunter
Speaking of Silver Age and Sci-Fi, who doesn't love a good time travel story? This would be a great series.
9) The Justice Society of America
I've been head over heels in love with this concept for 60 years. All-Star was my father's favorite comic when he was a little boy and he passed his love for this group on to me.
Ideally, the story should span the generations, from the darkest days of World War Two to the present day. What an awesome way to showcase DC's amazing 90 year legacy.
10) The Justice League of America
Someday, before I shuffle off this mortal coil, I want to see a truly great movie called Justice League. Zack Snyder's cut was good, if a little too ambitious. We won't talk about the theatrical version.
I want to see the glory and grandeur of the Silver Age, with the imagination of Grant Morrison. James Gunn appears to be heading in a JLI direction, which I understand. I liked JLI, I thought it was cute and funny and that concept is in Gunn's wheelhouse.
But man. Give me the big guns, the icons, the superstars ... with epic scope that spans several movies. A saga, if you will. I want a Justiice League movie every bit as great as that first Avengers movie.
Okay, that's it for now. But there are so many more. Metamorpho, Plastic Man, Kamandi, The Doom Patrol, Starman, Nightwing, Teen Titans, Birds of Prey, Green Arrow, Blackhawks, Metal Men, Hellblazer, The Outsiders, The Spectre, Black Orchid ... I could go on all night. But I'll spare you.
Assuming people go back to the movies again and this franchise takes off, what do YOU hope to see in the DCU?
