General Marvel Legends

For those of you finding the Legends displays at Wal-Mart - where are they?
Near the toy section?
Back by electronics?
Somewhere else?

The Marvel Unlimited Plus membership kit should be announced soon (last year's announcement was late August I think). I'm always interested to see what the bonus figure is because it's always something off the wall and unexpected. The last few were Knight-Spider, FA Nova, retro carded FA Daredevil, and Captain Kitty Pryde.
I recently picked up a loose Unlimited Nova from a local comic shop for $25.. I was surprised how low it was, so I checked eBay to compare and it was comparable. Kitty is in the $55-60 range, Knight Spider in the $80-90 range. Why is there such a discrepancy?

No idea! That's interesting though. Possibly a combination of a costume of relatively little interest made in a pretty mediocre way? No offense to Nova fans, I was happy to get this look, but the figure was nothing special. The same could be said about a lot of these Marvel Unlimited figures though - they're mostly simple repaints.

I did buy three of those purple outfit She-Hulks, all full price and it took way too much self control not to buy one every time I saw her on the pegs. Only one F4 version...so far.

Now if they do one like Marvel Cosmic Invasion, I'll buy a half-dozen.

See, I just want a classic Mandarin for my 60's Silver and Bronze Age villains shelf.

I have a shelf that has classic versions of Red Skull, Loki, Dormammu, Dr Doom, Magneto, Leader, Green Goblin, Bullseye, Ultron, Kang, Modok, Baron Zemo, Kang and a few others. Most of them were created by Stan Lee and/or Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko (Yes, I know the Doom figures we've gotten to this point are not true Jack Kirby/John Byrne versions. Hasbro knows as soon as they make one we'll buy it and most of us will never need another. The longer they put off making a Kirby Doom, the longer they can keep stringing us along. Diabolically clever).

That shelf full of Silver Age villains is screaming for a Mandarin.

He was Iron Man's top foe when I first started reading comics. Mandarin was to Iron Man what Green Goblin was to Spider-Man and Magneto was to the X-Men. The Arch Enemy. The Chief Nemisis. The Big Bad. You get the idea.

I'm looking at that shelf and all my heroes have somebody. Hulk has the Leader. Cap has the Red Skull. Thor has Loki. Dr Strange has Dormammu. The FF has Doom. The X-Men have Magneto. The Avengers have Kang. Spider-Man has the Goblin. SHIELD has Baron Strucker. The Black Panter has Klaw.

Poor Iron Man. He has no one.

You need to fix that, Dan and Dwight.

Ideally ... this is the version of Mandarin I would want:

But I'll take any per-1980 version of Mandarin I can get.

Please and thank you.
Is there anything overtly racist about this version, other than the hands? And the hands could easily be replaced by normal hands, with rings.

That, they've worn T-shirts that say shit like "Wrong Costume," and they've gotten snarkier & snarkier about shit, knowing the vitriol headed their way, lol.
Well, if they know the vitriol heading their way, then they know someone screwed up. So maybe the fans need to behave better, but if they know what’s coming, then I have to assume that Hasbro has done something to earn it.

Hahahaha
Yeah, "meh, pass" sounds like an intense reaction where someone is taking it reeeal personal. And, 90% of the posts from these members are effectively disgruntled complaints? Hahaha! gtfo
Btw, over in the Savage Land 3 pack thread wasn't it you who said... "Wow. Fuck Hasbro today. In 23 years of collecting this shit, today is one of the biggest let downs." That actually sounds like YOU are the one "losing it" and taking things too personal.
Look, some of us don't need another Deadpool, or Wolverine for that matter. Or, some of us just expect more from Hasbro than the phoned-in/mediocre product it seems like they occasionally sell us. Or some of us don't like their manipulative market strategies. Or, some of us get a little frustrated that they produce modern or obscure versions of characters when they absolutely know the majority of enthusiasts understandably want a particular iconic version. No one is calling for burning it all to the ground. We enjoy ML and are simply voicing our opinions and occasionally, our dissatisfaction. And that is exactly why this site exists; to articulate our thoughts.
Seems like you're one of those whine-about-whining type mfers. Get over it. No one's stopping you from squandering your money or going on and on with your Wolverine obsession.
Live and let live; it's not that difficult.
Lmao triggered

I said 90% - and yeah some people JUST THAT negative. Absolutely be frustrated occasionally (the SDCC set was a shitshow) but if I was pissed off most of the time like some of you, I'd do myself a favor and stop collecting.

And don't you worry your little head about the non-stop complaining. No one wants to take that away from you. Some people need it just to get out of bed every day. Just don't be shocked when people notice the constant negativity. Which... honestly, if you're that upset all the time about a hobby like this - it's kinda nice to realize you're in a comparably much healthier headspace. So, by all means, keep on with the mad.

Are we really settling on the hands being "overly racist"?

We're not getting any of the comic costumes lol

I blame all of you.
As you should, frankly.
Internet skews negative. I hate myself for coming onto boards (no offense) because it usually just throws cold water on enthusiasm. I guess I can't stay away - there's good convo here at least and in the early Hasbro days we needed to commiserate. I always learn something from other posters.
If you think we're negative, you should see YouTube, Reddit, and Instagram.
I agree, I've stated before and continue to think Legends are the best they've ever been. Maybe I feel strongly about that because I did collect Marvel figures in the 90s and wished for articulation as good as we have today. I started collecting the line with Classics and those first Legends 25 years ago. The early Hasbro days where you had to look at a figure and really fool yourself that it was a nice upgrade on a character you liked. That first Extremis?? Holy shit was there a ton of coping and excuses made on my part for that one. Having been a collector through all of that, contrasted with that we're getting today? Really great toys. Sure, there are things to take issue with. Not everything is going to be a slam dunk for everyone. But you can't hold up a strong modern Legends release beside something from 10-15 years ago and not realize how far we've come.
I never know what to do with these discussions. We have the complainers and then people complaining about the complainers. It's a tale as old as time. I can come off as cynical, whiny, and nitpicky, but that's because I am. Immediately beneath it is an appreciation for where we are, though.

I love Marvel Legends. Probably 55% of my collection is Hasbro Marvel figures. Sometimes I post in frustration about Hasbro deviously getting me to buy a two-pack, about Maximum Deadpool (looking great, by the way!) coming in a costume I don't want, or about them improving an Iron Man figure I bought less than three years ago. It's out of a longing for them to do better, a love for the line, or commiseration with my pals. I understand that the negativity can be overbearing, but I think of it as constructive criticism or shooting the shit rather than bloodlust.

I actually find I don't talk much about Marvel Legends lately because it's just reliably good for me. They haven't revealed anyone new that has blown my mind lately (admittedly I booked a "meeting" in my calendar to try to get the Savage Land Set, that probably counts!) but I'm just... I guess a generally satisfied customer? They put out enough figures I want and I haven't had a dud in ages. (I did joke around upthread about the new Deadpool but that was more griping that he comes with something I want when I'm already very happy with the versions of him I have.)

I was shuffling around the random figures I rotate on my desk tonight and mean... hell, I can't decide who or which versions I want to have in the limited space this week. I have two BANSHEES I can't put away. Banshee, he who hath been done dirty by Marvel forever. I think I have four Daredevils not in storage because I can't decide. I think my only beef while reshuffling the collection tonight was every single time I don't put Nate Grey / X-Man on display he gets bow-legged in a box for some reason.

But also we're spending a lot of money on this stuff and it's a source of joy, so I get why people get angry and complain. I locked myself out of my Twitch account tonight and I blurted out, out loud, "I just wanted one fuckin' thing today that didn't turn into work!" Anyway that's why I was rearranging my Legends, because I lost my shit by knowing it's my fault I somehow fucked up my own 2FA and I worked in cybersecurity for years and should bloody know better, but the six Peter Parkers I debated about displaying did not judge me.

Its funny because I feel like my disappointment in the Maximum Deadpool was called out as part of the 'complainers'... but I also get accused of being overly positive or even an 'apologist' in other instances

People don't have to like everything a company puts out and its not wrong for them to say that here. I get disappointed at the reveal of yet another Iron Man - even though Akatsuki wishes the line were even more Iron Man heavy. Neither one of us is wrong for expressing that.

People talk about criticism like it ruins discussion, but relentless positive opinion can be just as borung and stifling... the exchange of opinions, positive and negative is the good stuff.

Guys - no one wants to take away your ability to be disappointed or complain. I wasn't thrilled with the costume choice for Deadpool, but I'm still getting two. It is what it is. As pointed out, I was pretty pissed off about the SDCC set - in fact it was probably the most frustrated I've been in 25 years of collecting the line. That's not too bad, and 99% of the time I enjoy the figures and am happy to buy them.

The comment was about some who are constantly negative, disappointed, or upset. There are a few. The line clearly isn't a source of joy anymore. Instead of reflecting on that, the reaction seems to be "haha fuck you I'll complain about what I want." And that's OK. Some people aren't comfortable looking at how negative they've become. The goal is, despite the backlash to my comments, for people to find something they actually enjoy and that makes them happy. If happiness is focusing on negativity all the time... No one is saying don't discuss frustrations or disappointment. But if you only have one speed... like, why bother with it anymore? It's really weird that's a controversial sentiment.

Speaking of the Marvel Unlimited figure, really curious who we get this year. And while I'm surprised a store had Nova on the cheap, honestly, I'm glad I have him, but he is so hilariouslyh low-effort I could see someone just looking at him like, oh, come on, and selling him off. He's *good enough* to stand in for my New Warriors collection since the New Warriors are absolute unhinged chaos in terms of costume slection at the moment (c'mon Hasbro, hook us up with a boxed set with Issue 1 costumes for Vance and Namorita!) but that Nova is truly not their finest work.

Brain bouncing - Nova, really liked hte Annihilators style Nova from a billion years back and wouldn't hate a new version... you know the random figure I want? Annihilators Quasar. Every time I see an image of that costume I'm like: damn, I want that in plastic.

I hope they continue to be random non-essential characters/variants I have no interest in. That Rescue was such a pain in the ass.
