General Marvel Legends

His lace-up booties are just awful. That's why I got rid of that version of Kraven because I thought they looked so stupid.

I wish they hadn't shadow dropped all the Spidey re-issues where if you weren't at your computer THAT MOMENT most of them aren't available online.

Hasbro is really finding delightful ways to treat their loyal customers this summer.

Anyone current with comics, specifically the current Ultimate imprint:

Kinda weird we haven't had any talk.at all, no? Even Krakoa had one wave.
My bet is that the "most recent comic Wolverine" that was leaked at some point is probably Ultimate Wolverine. At least I hope it is, since trying to do something with that stupid gold admantium from his current 616 solo would be a worse mistake than even "hot claws" was.

Other than that I doubt we'll see anything else from the current Ultimate stuff, especially since Hasbro probably have the impression that modern waves sell badly compared to nostalgia bait, and we're probably going to see some stuff from the old Ultimate universe trickle in after Iron Man in the mini comic wave.

I'd actually really like a fully-classic, Romita style Kraven straight off of this cover:

... laser-nipples would be preferrable.
Absolutely. On both counts. ...and both nipples.

Some Wal-marts get the full toy treatment but others don't, it's all based on sales data and store size. I read a metric on the nuber of stores where toys are a priority and it was about half of the locations. Seems crazy. but I suppose they know what they're doing. I wish they would release the "favored-toy" store info though - it would be a win/win for all parties.
My store that got the new big display was not previously a favored toy store. They didn't sell MOTU or GI Joe or much of anything but Skibbadydooda toilet.

Looks like AI.
As an illustrator and consumer, it is true that I just prefer something rough that you can see the mistakes and touch in, like Noto or Mahfood or Lotay.

Artgerm is skilled, but yeah, he's hit a point where, as mentioned earlier, he just draws one girl cosplaying over and over, and it's so refined it's off-putting.

Now, ironically, you say he looks like AI, and it's because he is one of the main artists that was trained on by all the services like Night Cafe. I think his popularity is due to being a solid mash of Eastern and Western comic art, which lead to lots of cover and pin up gigs, which led to it being one of the more used AI trainers, which led to even more popularity/recognizability with some fans, vicious circle

Anyway, they just tap him and Peach Momoko for every single thing the past five years or so and I'm just starting to "turn the dial" every time even if the song is catchy.

Oh I've seen plenty of videos showing Artgerm's process in whipping up a picture of his girl on someone's blank comic cover. He can do incredible work by hand using ink pens, colored pencils and whatnot, he's incredibly talented.

I always lament that the really good comic illustrators are only hired for variant covers these days. David Finch, Gary Frank, etc.......guys that have proven in the past that they can do incredible interior work. Even guys that are now more old school like Jim Lee or J. Scott Campbell who rarely if ever do interiors......at least they USED to. I don't know that Artgerm has ever done an interior for any comic. He may ore may not have any storytelling ability at all. I'd be interested to find out.

I would be very surprised if Artgerm has exceptional panel to panel chops. While very slick, there's not a ton of storytelling going on in his cover work. I would also bet, like many cover artists, that he'd have a hard time hitting deadlines on longer-form stuff. Heck, one of the reasons we see folks transition to covers from panels is because they do great work, but can't keep up with the pace.

Not their fault, really. I've felt for well over a decade that the release schedule of comics, at least superhero comics, is pretty bad for the medium.

I might be in the minority but I'd be willing to wait a bit for the really good artists to put in their full effort on interiors for monthly books. I can download pretty pin up variant covers and put it as a wallpaper on my phone if I want to. I miss being treated to really good art cover to cover.

I've been reading Hush 2 and I just recently read that it's been running late (honestly haven't noticed) and that it's going to run in to Batman's (yet another) relaunch in September....an ALL NEW #1! Eh, oh well, I'm just here for Jim Lee.

I feel like this model works but not for Marvel and DC because they are soulless corporation machines.

Image and DSTLRY have no prob time lining things out so we get true art across the board.

I wonder very much what comics would look like if they'd transitioned intentionally away from monthly mags into graphic novels at the end of the 90s. I've got a lot of thoughts about it.
