Thank you again!

Shang Chi will be tempting, I have to see about Doom's look, both I guess, and Cyclops is a big fat maybe with the threat of recasting happening for the new X-Men movie.

Unless I'm mistaken, the leak lists for Doomsday have so far been:

  • Nightcrawler
  • Mystique
  • Beast
  • Doom
  • Thor
  • Sam
  • Gambit
  • Shang Chi
  • Cyclops
or
  • Doom
  • Thing
  • Sam
  • Gambit
  • Thor
  • Shang Chi
  • Cyclops
  • Mr. Fantastic/HERBIE
  • Invisible Woman/Human Torch
  • Doom - Walmart
So, Doom, Thor, Sam, Gambit, Shang Chi, and Cyclops are agreed on at least.

This new list from today matches the one Beamish posted from Facebook in June.

I have to see both Dooms. Def will end up with 1 at least.

I want Herbie, so getting that 2 pack. I can maybe just use the body of this Reed to make one for my Illuminati shelf.

Will get Gambit and Cyclops for sure. The rest? Unless finances change, probably skips or wait for sales

Also possible could be a Wave 1 and Wave 2 situation. Hence the 2 leaks

According to leakers the Nightcrawler from Doomsday is much older and has all white hair like Magneto. Don't know that I need that look. I'm in for Gambit and Cyclops if they look decent. Originally Cyclops was supposed to be in Deadpool & Wolverine as a variant but was cut for whatever reason. Maybe saving the costume reveal for this film...

Yeah... That's ultimately how it is for me... I have ideal looks for these characters in my head and if Doomsday doesn't deliver, I'll wait. White head Nightcrawler isn't what I'm into.

But I am excited at the potential for the post-Secret War MCU X-Men team. Those will have to be some comic accurate suits :)

Yeah same here. And ages apparently heh..but I get Doomsday is the nostalgia kiss off for all the fox characters. Cool cool but then yes, let's get to the real, MCU X-Men.

Sidenote, my wife is DONE with the MCU. We had a back and forth after FF, which she said was fine, but she feels she has seen more than enough now. Getting to see everyone all at once in Secret Wars doesn't interest her, not seeing everyone and more all at once presumably in Avengers 7 or 8. I don't know how indicative her opinion is for the general audience, but I'm sure she isn't the only one. And I don't blame her really, there's a lot of things I'm not as into like actiony bits. I am more into exploring characters and relationships, which were my favorite parts of FF and Thunderbolts. That's why the party in AOU is one of my favorite sequences in the MCU. I'm sorry, I love banter!

But yeah, I'm sticking with marvel even after all the recasts and hoping for the figures to follow damnit.

Was reading about the box office drop for F4 and so-so performance of Superman. I really enjoyed both, but I'm not sure if I thought so highly of them because everything lately has been so bad, and they are only better in contrast. You could say that comic book movies don't have the same draw since the arguable plateau of Endgame... but No Way Home did over a billion. It can happen. COVID and streaming were detractors from those big box office numbers, for Marvel there was just too much homework with the television shows for general audiences. My GF is the same as your wife, she'll watch the movies, generally enjoys them - however she does not watch the shows. So the new Cap movie, which was stitched together via re-shoots and the quality showed, didn't resonate at all given that a lot of the backstory happened in Falcon and Winter Soldier. Thunderbolts was in a similar boat with Walker, but he was so well done you got enough backstory with the Void stuff.

I'd love to see the Avengers movies put up a ton of money, and I think the Downey/Spidey factor will help a lot... but there are so many characters that aren't part of the tremendous success of the Infinity Saga that most people struggle to care about. Even Ant Man wasted any potential good will with a really not good Quatumania. Future success of everything probably depends on casting of the really popular heroes like Cap, Iron Man, Thor... core Avengers who need to come back, but will face obvious comparisons to very popular and recent versions. I also wonder what it means to Legends collectors who will essentially be starting with a rebooted universe with new Caps and Iron Men o replace the ~50 released the last 2 decades. We were really blessed with that 2008-2019 run of real quality world-building movies. What Marvel especially did is pretty unprecedented. It would be a shame to go back to a period of really middling quality superhero stuff.

I am a MCU lifer. Buy maybe not as invested as I was, but FF and Thunderbolts have me more interested than I was
I think I'm the same. Sure, some have been lackluster and I'll never finish Secret Invasion but I'll always give all the live action stuff a chance. Just like Star Wars.

I also hope the Avengers movies are massive hits again. And even if the new X-Men movie is total trash, I will want figures from it heh.

I think scheduling Superman and FF two weeks apart was a bad call that hurt both, especially FF as it followed.

There was really no reason for those two movies to come out on top of each other, except I think Marvel wanted to capitalize on Comic-Con, which was unnecessary. FF at Thanksgiving would have made a heckuva lot more sense. Given Thunderbolts time to breathe (and release the toys), and then really let FF be it's own unique and specific thing.

I totally get your way of thinking but seems like that's the way the industry is going anymore. Decades ago, a movie could pick up steam and word of mouth and become a blockbuster a month or two after release but now it seems like opening weekend is it. Second weekend may do well, but by the third weekend they're already thinking about streaming etc.

It’s a shame that decent movies are deemed failures based on box office numbers now. Doesn’t matter that it was a good movie, if it doesn’t make $X, it’s a failure in the eyes of the studio and will never be revisited.
