Mezco One:12

My father's uncle owned a newsstand in town that we'd walk over to on occasion. His cousin would usually run the place and one time gave me a copy of Savage Sword of Conan magazine. The B&W was a little more inappropriate for a 9 or 10 year old? My Mom didn't really approve but I was allowed to keep it 😀
My parents were not the 'THINK OF THE CHILDREN!' types anyway, so unless they knew something was wildly inappropriate, they tended not to give stuff very much thought. I had loads of Savage Sword and Heavy Metal issues and they just figured they were comics, and comics are for kids, so what is there to worry about.

Ha, this was me too re: comics - and yes same w/Heavy Metal - god I loved that magazine so much. One of the perks of being in the latchkey generation X era, right?

Are we concerned with Conan? I tried to stay positive because we've seen the crappy early in-hand Mezco photos before, but this is a newer batch of photos from a retailer. I've got the $10.50 deposit at BBTS. Do I eat it.

All I can hear is Pixel Dan's Arnold impersonation:

Woof.

I mean.. it's a lot better than Super7. And the sword looks too big. And the sculpting definitely looks a LOT softer than is the case with any Mezco figures I currently own. Ugh. That's a tough one.
I paid up front for this guy at TS, and I'll have to eat a restocking fee to cancel. Ugh. I should have listened to myself when I swore off Mezco after all the fuck ups that they refused to do anything about.

Better to eat it than eat the full retail and then trying to flip it later which is just more time and cost than maybe you don't even break even.

Just asking us tells me that you probably want to.

I'm waffling about it because it's Mezco and it seems like brand new Mezcos at least go for retail or just over, even in a middling market. So I'm thinking... eat a restocking fee, or get the item and hope I can sell it for cost and then I eat no fees.

There's also a chance it looks better in your set up than this photo shoot.
Yeah, but if I know the toy market here I'm better off deciding before I even peel the plastic off the outer box or I'll probably just never sell the thing. So the decision is do I keep it without seeing it first, do I cancel it without seeing it first, or do I put it in the sell pile without seeing it first.

First actual video review I've seen pop up of Conan. I... I THINK I'm okay with how he turned out. Enough that I'd rather have this than have no Arnie Conan at all in my collection. And until/unless Mezco (or Harvinger?) makes a Battle of the Mounds Conan, I'll be okay with this.

I'd like to try to get those pants to not look so skin tight as shown in the above Instagram photos from Empire. I guess it's the old issue of soft goods at this scale. I was looking at pictures of figures and statues of warpaint Conan. The pants look better with some wrinkles that are possible with sculpt (neca's unarticulated figure) or soft goods at a larger scale (1:3 and 1:2!). Jeeze, 1:2 scale, 42" from bottom of base to top of head, 47" to tip of sword.

The more things change.

I was aware there was a mezco con coming up but for whatever reason I assumed it would run parallel or close to San Diego.

Nope, I missed a drop today that I might have liked. But hey, getting my money is their problem at this point. There's other stuff I'm trying to get.

But I really do like Gomez.

I feel like I've graduated from a 12-step program or something. I too was unaware and received the email announcement — sent 20 minutes or so after he went on sale — clicked over and of course, Gomez was already long gone.

I whispered, "Fuck off, Mezco," under my breath and went back to work. I can't be bothered by these guys anymore.
