Mattel DC Figures

Amen.

I've been doing some long overdue reshuffling of my room, and a bookshelf I've had for years has now been moved into my closet. The top of that bookshelf used to display my first few Marvel Legends back in 2014. Now that it's out of the range of terror of my shitty little daughters (cats), it's displaying the start of my Batman figure collection. A mishmash of Mafex, 6-inch Kenner, and DC Direct for now, but those will get upgraded and added to as I go, whether that be Mattel, Mafex, or customs. Just feels great to get a childhood dream going.

Here's to hoping Mattel doesn't take long getting to my preferred eras of Batman, Aquaman, and Captain Marvel.

Have to admit these 3 packs look great - gives me DC Superheroes Mattel line from 2003 - nothing too serious just fun toys with more than a glancing nod to comic book accuracy. Bane in particular - wow. Def. Convinced enough to spring for the 3 pack.

This is probably better suited for a collection thread (I'll make one when the rest of my stuff is dusted and reorganized), but that's this display started. Your move, Mattel. Make it so I don't have to make customs to fill out the rest.

I do think the collector line will do the Absolute Universe sooner rather than later, it's rather popular. Blokees is doing an Absolute Batman, two other third party companies are doing Abs Bat, Sideshow is doing a 1/6 one. That being said, I have no idea how any toy company would do Absolute Superman's cape since it isn't cloth and more energy mixed with the last red dust of Krypton and nanomachines. Are you gonna do a wired soft goods cape that can be removed in favor of attaching a bunch of colored plastic bits?

Been toying around with Mafex Knightfall Batman, Mattel's Core Robin, and Chronicles King Grayskull today. If the DC collector line has the same exact sizes as the Core line, and the construction and articulation scheme of Chronicles, my wallet is really, really going to hurt. I gotta keep myself cool and level-headed. I'm simply not ready for what may very well be budget Mafex with a wider character/costume selection.

I’m used to being a one-line-at-a-time collector. But that’s changed. Trying to close out McFarlane, cherry picking Mattel, and my relatively recent Marvel Legends fixation are adding up. I’m also considering backfilling DCUC figures that I shouldn’t have gotten rid of in the first place. Condensed to around 75 figures. Featuring the JSA, Kirby, the Multiverse, and a small handful of outliers that I think are amazing. No theme, no rhyme or reason. Just figures I like.

My hope is that I can distill this down to cherry picking and curating both Hasbro and Mattel in 2027. Just fun stuff from both lines. This may prove difficult as my recent experience with Marvel Legends has taken a turn that I didn’t see coming. Once I’d gotten past the intimidation factor, my want list kept growing. My intention was to “curate” a relatively small number of favorites. Let’s just say that it’s blossomed from there. I suspect that will also happen when the DC collector line begins.
