Muppets (including The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock)

I've only encountered stuff at one store so either a bunch of stores declined to participate or NECA has narrowed its focus for it. Since it is all vendor-stocked, it also could be stores just have it in the back and no one is touching it. If not for the online drops though I would have come away with nothing.

I found the best distribution was last year when they had the shipper. I don’t know if vendors had to unpack these, but product seemed more consistently available across multiple stores in my area. This year, I’ve seen an end cap nearby the collectible section in 3 stores, where one had stock, one was entirely empty and the third was filled with Pops, with a couple of items sitting in the collectible section instead. Thanks to online drops, I’m just missing Usagi at this point — I’ll wait for him to go up at BBTS if I don’t run across him, but I’m done hunting.

Virginia finally got its stock, and I was able to Get Grover, Usagi, and the 4 turtles between two stores. If anyone is looking for anything, I can keep an eye out.

I did hear a rumor on reddit(so giant grain of salt) that Neca had trouble getting store vendors this round, which would explain why some places participated and other regions had zilch.

Muppet Christmas Carol, like Muppet Babies, has been a huge want for me. My only concern is if they don’t pick up the pace, I don’t think they are going to go as deep as I would like, but I’ll take what I can get.

I can see myself buying Gonzo & Rizzo, the Marley's, a Michael Caine Scrooge, Bean Bunny and a few others. I don't know that I'll need to go super deep on this film but I'd get a few representatives since I did enjoy it more than most Muppet films and I watch it every Christmas. Fozzy & Piggy I think is where I'd bow out, as I'm already opting out of a lot of other Muppet stuff from the Sesame Street line too.

If Kermit is 6” like the Sesame Street figures, no way will they make gigantic figures like Father Xmas and Scrooge. I think this could be it

I don't expect to see either of these, especially Scrooge, which would likely require separate likeness rights, but if they can do 8'2" Big Bird, then 6'2" Michael Caine and the Ghost of Christmas Present (only slightly taller than Caine when he shrinks down) aren't totally out of the realm of possibility. In any case, it would be really odd for them not to do characters like Gonzo and Rizzo and other "normal" Muppet-sized characters.

The Toy Collectr article about the Christmas Carol Muppets had several points I found really interesting. It's a short article that is worth reading.
- NECA is considering the Palisades line with their character selection - trying to do new characters and different variants.
- Bob and Tiny Tim are being released as an individual set instead of a full wave of Christmas Carol figures, but it sounds like NECA plans to release another set every Christmas (at least, Gonzo and Rizzo for 2027)
- Sales of Super Grover and Big Bird have been good - giving the line momentum to keep going
- Big Bird, Oscar, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo are all supposed to come out this year.
- NECA will likely only have a couple of new Muppet items to show at SDCC this summer.

The once a year release schedule is my concern. They really are moving slowly with both Muppets lines. Of course, I'm sure the state of the world is not helping with that.

On the other hand, I'm getting a new Muppet from Kenny Durkin every month. Kind of interesting to see what one 3D printer can do versus a corporation. I realize it is different in so many ways, volume, production, approvals, etc. It is just an interesting dichotomy.

Once a year makes sense for a holiday themed subline. Hopefully it has long legs so fans have something to look forward to for several Christmases to come.
