Mattel DC Figures

So where does Mattel stand on that now?
Mattel's biggest weakness as a company is how little it tries to interact with the customers. So... not good? Like, the plus side is you don't have someone front and center just fucking lying all the time while trying to turn himself into a brand. The downside is, most regular collectors have basically no idea what's going on with Mattel at any given time because they refuse to engage with the fanbase almost at all. Look at the state of MOTU as a brand. It's a fucking mess because we never know what's going on and even the few times per year that Mattel attends a show, they still barely say anything beyond 'look at what's in the booth.'

What do you mean by this? X-Men TAS is basically just a comic style cartoon with the actual comic designs, but we really do not have anything along that lines for DC cartoons and games, except maybe Super Friends. I'm completely open for DCAU figures that don't explode upon using their articulation, but I can't see them being properly "compatible".

If we skew them to be just labelled JLU or something and be comic figures with those overall looks, those designs are 99% of the time just going to be the most evergreen or iconic costume of each respective character and miss what makes that incarnation special. Granted, I'd much rather standard comic style releases of these exact outfits anyways, but I don't see the point in DCAU, etc figures if they're going to be "compatible" in the sense we think of typically.
X-Men ‘97 is what I’m talking about along with some of the Gamerverse stuff. That Gamerverse Captain America is about perfect. Venom is good too but seems a shade too light.

Rivals seems a little different. Punisher is very exaggerated. Spider-Man from the two-pack looks perfectly fine.

While an Absolute Batman would be cool (though I don't personally care about it), it'd be a terrible figure for the first reveal.
I will say that while I don't particularly care about Absolute Batman, the runaway success of it all but guarantees we'll be getting large characters as deluxe releases instead of BAFs, which I am grateful for

The only time my deodorant failed was when I got a hug from Tia Carrere. My body temperature shot up about a million degrees and I damn near passed out.

I'll save that story for the Countdown to SDCC. It was pretty funny.

Dwight and Dan do monthly (sometimes semi-monthly) live streams on Hasbro Pulse to announce new figures.

But Dwight and Dan don't have to deal with Warner Brothers Consumer Products. Mattel does.

I know people blamed Scott for a lot of things, but not everything was his fault.

WBCP is the fly in the ointment. They are the enemies of fun. To put it mildly, they suck scummy pond water.

Now, that whole fiasco with DCUC ending at retail was a long time ago and I'm sure things have changed with WBCP. God, I hope so. But I guess we'll find out.
I'd sure love to read an essay on the behind the scenes stuff. (That was a hint.)

So, I got in Wave 1 of the kids line from BBTS and I got Robin and his motorcycle from Amazon. I haven't opened them yet, but as far as looks.......damn!

These look really nice. So colorful and vibrant, yet so well done and legit looking. The kids line looks like an adult collector's line. Just less articulation and kid line weapons.

But I love the look of them. The head sculpts are incredible on all of them. I'll have to open them up later and see how everything moves and feels.

But just by looks alone in their packaging, these things look awesome and I am excited.

I think I'll recount that whole sad episode during the Countdown to SDCC. That'll start around the end of June on the Marvel board.

Hopefully, we won't see history repeat itself.
