Quitting/putting collecting on pause

Some were asking about the Brottar assembly not lining up. All of the parts we've had so far (we've built 3 of them) have been great, and the shelves seem sturdy enough that they shouldn't sag unless you're putting seriously heavy stuff on them (think more like books, and less like figures). Most of the complaints I've seen are about the glass doors and how they don't line up or install correctly, but you just have to take your time with them and sort of "eyeball" what you're doing before you attempt to do it. Gotta have a battle plan lol But they fit just fine and nothing is crooked or misaligned.

As far as the doors themselves, there is a small gap between the doors so the cabinets are not 100% dustproof. However, unless you live in a super dusty area, it shouldn't present too much of an issue. We live surrounded by dust and desert, and things seem fine so far.

I haven't timed them, but the motion activated lights seem to stay on for 5-10 minutes before shutting back off. We usually just turn them on and leave them on, though. I find the on/off/on/off throughout the day to be annoying, so I prefer to just have them one or the other.

I'm late to the party here, but 2 things:

1. The Brottar shelves on Amazon are really nice for the money, and the built in lights are good. The shelves aren't incredibly deep, but they look good. Mrs. Smallville has a few for her Living Dead Dolls, they're great.

2. I'm not normally an "interior design" kinda guy, but I love that floor. Don't know why, either, it just speaks to me lol

Thanks for the first hand review.

We're not entirely happy with the floors. The entire house was done in this color, but not done well, and the basement in particular has dips and valleys in certain spots because we determined it was done by a bank flipping the house to get rid of it after the owner passed and the family didn't want to deal with it (the sellers we bought it from were told the roof was new, and it WASN'T; shingles came up with a finger), so it was done quick & cheap).

I ordered my first cabinet tonight. Should be here by next Monday.

Ooooh, that sucks about the floors (at least they look nice from a distance?). I bought my house in 2006 and experienced a few of the same types of things. Previous owner hadn't passed, but he did "upgrade" a lot of the electrical system himself and it caused one issue after another over time. Burned out outlets, breakers can't take more than one thing at a time in certain rooms, etc. Being a homeowner is both a blessing and a curse.

I hope you like the cabinet! If you don't, I guess you can yell at me lol

You guys sold me. I had a notification on my phone come up for a Brottar set for $149.99 and I jumped. I get several of these sent to me regularly after looking at them online and they're all over the place with pricing. This is the one I bought when I got the notification:

I'm considering trying this one also, listed under a different brand:

I had a question / seeking advice from the group, wasn't sure where exactly to put it so I figured this was as good as any. I have a toy show coming up this weekend, and I have gone through my collection and picked out a ton of stuff to hopefully move (this is where it ties into the thread lol). I've been selling loose figures at these things for years, either in $5 bins or bundled in "lots". For the price I move them, you typically get the figure and their weapon, if it was easy to package together. This has prevented me from having to go through the bins of hands, accessories, heads, etc to match them to a figure.

This time, I decided to go through my bin and holy crap I have a lot of hands lol

I have sorted everything so hands are in 1 bag, heads in another, and random little accessories / weapons are in a 3rd one. The figures for the vast majority of this stuff are long gone, but I'd like to move them. As collectors yourselves, if you were at a show and found a table selling loose hands, heads, and weapons, how would you prefer to see them? Mrs. Smallville suggested I lay everything out and let people pick through it, and sell pairs of hands and stuff like that. That seems like a lot of work on my part lol Mostly in just always keeping an eye so nobody just pockets them. I also have no desire to sort through everything and put hands together. Does anyone have any good ideas?

Also, besides the "how" to sell them, I have no idea how "much" to sell them for. If it were me doing the shopping, I'd be down for going through the pile of heads because you can always use them for customizing. But I, personally, have no use for hands and just hoping someone out there does...I just don't know how to package/display/sell hands, heads, or weapons and accessories.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe just sort them by color? Depends on how much work you want to create for yourself. The best way to move them might be baggies of colored sets: fists, open, gripping, other. Or you could just make them four left hands and four right hands per set regardless of the configuration.

I'd get little ziplock baggies for crafting. LEGO people use them for minifigs.

You said you don't want to do work buuuut....

OCD as I frustratingly am, many figure hands don't match up by Color as easily as you'd think, so just making sure you have the correct set of hands would go a long way. A bin of hands would be obnoxious to try and match Sienna with Scarlet with Candy Apple Reds and just put me off.

I might even go the extra mile and find promo images just to match the head, hands, and accessories in each bag. It's my experience buyers are precise and finicky about these things, and you may be able to eke more money out of an established Set of Deadpool kit than just "red hands". But I do see a market for both.

Alternately.

Toss all the heads and hands in a bag. Find a number you like. Maybe even research the heads you have because some of those can go off for like $10 to $30 in the customizing market. And at least you can just tag the entire package at that price.

And then I will just put all the weapons in another box. Make your own Vala Armory Tin. I feel like swords and guns would move quickly and with less hassle than hands.

But just two shot, two kills. Be done.

Finding the hands from my bags of hands to sell my McFarlane DC is proving a greater challenge that I'd anticipated. Also can't find Polka Dot man's goggles. Once I make it through everyone if I'm still not finding some things I'm going to have to sell as is. Searching the rest of my collection would be maddening.

This doesn't sound too bad, actually. Maybe a step further and sort them by "male head/hands" in a bag and "female head/hands" in a bag. That would be easy enough without taking a ton of time. It might be the best way to move the hands, to just bundle them with the heads. I hadn't thought of that.

Another solid idea.

I appreciate it, gents! Truly.

This is the call.

Unless you're looking to make a lot of work for yourself - just put them in a bag big enough for people to pick up and shake around to see what's in there. Someone into customizing or whatever will pick it up. Or there will be a head in there that they REALLY want and are willing to buy the bag to get it.

It really is. When I first started selling at shows, I wanted to pair up every loose figure with every accessory but it proved to be incredibly daunting. Ultimately, I realized I just didn't like money enough to mess with it 🤣 I ended up selling them loose as-is, and in lots (multiple figures in a bag for __ dollars) just to get stuff out. It left me drowning in hands and heads, but I mostly got to keep my sanity.

Mostly.

Alt told me to be Bobby Vala. Or make a Vala tin or something, I don't really remember. I have a Sharpie and I'm about to draw joints on the inside of my elbows as we speak, I feel confident I'm remembering his suggestion correctly.

I feel like you're getting too old to be chasing people around a hotel in the middle of the night to pretend you want to fight them.
