Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

Anyway, would have been a big deal for an artist just starting out to be able to claim the Four Horsemen based a sculpt off her art, but that time is long gone, and I guess now she’s in the company of Red Sonya of “people with a paper trail the Horsemen have stolen from”

Damn. Thanks for sharing. I'm already a fence sitter but now I've got to think about how much more I contribute to them if at all. Mostly wanted these last dwarves to make my Warcraft and D&D character.

I assume you mean how my wife designed Minotaur’s helmet and was never credited (if you mean how they’re always stealing art I got examples of THAT too but I’m telling this story first)… well sit back and let me tell you a tale a tale set back in ye olden days of the FanTastic Exclusive Forums!

[
I had no idea. I was extremely active in their forums in the beginning years. I go all the way back to the first FanEx. I remember the whole duck campaign on the forum. I can’t remember which one I backed (I want to say it was the duck). He definitely was the most unique. I remember at the time he was announced during the Kickstarter being happy that something from the forum made it into figure form. I had no idea there was never recognition or thanks given to the creators. I am very sorry to hear that. Your wife did a great job on the picture.

I am also a long time old FANatic forum member.

I remember the thread with all the bantering about ideas. I know I was 1 of maybe 3 that proposed the Phoenix design as well, so I was happy to get that in figure forum. From that KS, I still have Minotaur, the Phoenix and the standard Raven.

I mean in all honesty I made the Sonja link because of their Legendary Barbarian figure (the two being complimentary), but I reckoned it was different enough that there was no way you could pursue a copyright infringement in court. The concept being too broad, and the 4H figure's outfit is just too different, and has specific ornamentations. But even the chainmail bikini predated Sonja, it seems like they are probably vigilant about defending the IP because it's not nearly as visually unique as say, Mickey Mouse.

Originally when I heard the news of the strike, I had thought that maybe the figure was too close of on homage to another red haired video game character I had seen ads for, but didn't know - just vaguely remembered. Google tells me it's Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. That's who I thought of when I heard the news and what the original 4H ads pulled up in my mind. I think because I saw her with woad on her face.

The throne photo though was definitely 4H pushing their luck an exhibiting some hubris. But I'm not sure, still, if that would get you anywhere in court. Bad ass characters on thrones is done to death. No one here is winning the creativity Olympics.

As an IP holder, I'm always interested in these discussions, though. Ironically enough, the official Red Sonja account is advertising knock off Nike Air Jordans with a Red Sonja skin. They feature a flipped Nike logo on them. Kind of a speck/log situation going on here.

It doesn’t have to be enough to win in court, it just has to be close enough to not want to have to deal with going to court

I just went to their site... and their logo is a dude holding an actual Nike sneaker, with the logo intact. Now THAT is flying close to the sun.

I missed a lot. Are we actually finally deciding to hold 4H accountable for the MASSIVE amount of art and IP theft they do?
Or was that just a fun side conversation between releases that everyone will trip over their own dicks to pre-order?

Kinda, so what they do is buy Nikes in bulk and then customize them. They are in a grey area but I believe they do have some kinda deal with Nike

I think... The duck thing actually soured me, for real, for real. Frfr.

If I have to hold Skynet and Brainiac and the prompters accountable as an artist, I gotta hold the flesh and blood accountable, too. I understand homages and IP skirting. But the duck story as presented is what got me.

Thinking anyone on an action figure forum has a dick long enough to trip over is the kind of optimism we could really use these days.
