Star Wars Black Series

I've had Dash Rendar for a bit but just opened him. He is my first SW figure with the ball-joint wrists. Our resident lovable-grump, @Damien, has way understated how bad these are. Absolute dogshit. Fractionally better than a swivel joint. What a giant, steaming, step backward.

Yeah, I really can't overstate how disappointed I am in the switch to these utterly shit wrists. New Han has them too, and they are trash on him as well.

It's why I summoned you. I remember you not liking them. I thought you might be exaggerating. Nope. If anything you undersold their bullshittery.

I'm glad someone else sees it. I was starting to feel like a crazy person with people being like 'these wrists have better ROM than anything else ever' and all that. Like, dude... they barely fucking move at all. Might as well go back to that Hoth Luke that doesn't even have wrist joints.

Since you guys brought it up again, I'll just share some pics I took a while back. Obi Wan, anakin, and the Moff Gideon Darktrooper armor body all have the new wrists. Luminara and my custom purple Mando have the old ones. I didn't get the Gideon arm in the right position but its close.

I'm still a little torn on the new wrists. I like them in theory- having a wrist joint that can act like an actual wrist is kinda nice, but the range on them is just so much lesser than the old swivel hinges. Especially in the Force users, that sacrifices a decent amount of poses; I also think that's at least partially why adding the fanned blades to the sabers weighs the wrists down so much and makes it hard to keep the pose. Aside from perhaps the smallest of the fanned blades, not a single one I've added has been able to hold the pose, except when I have them holding the hilt with 2 hands (and even then, sometimes not).

They don't really bother me so much on the non-Force users, as they don't really need to strike as many cool poses. But I'd honestly rather they just focus their energy into giving us cool swappable hands instead. I like that we've gotten a bit more variety lately- Luminara and Quinlan's Force gesture hands, Kyle's extended finger for his blaster, etc., and would love to just see more of those in general. I don't really know what the reason for the wrist change was in the first place, aside from maybe wanting to emulate some of the fancier import figures.

I'm gonna be honest, I barely notice the new wrists. But that might just be me. I've come to realize that the knees on this line that I desperately hated at first will probably actually age better than double knees (I noticed this when I was moving around the figures not on display, the older legs warp really easily if you're not watching out) and so I don't hate them the way I did when they first appeared, but the wrists I don't really pick up on the difference.

Now if they had McFarlane style wrists I'd riot. That's some steaming ratshit garbage.

Are you sure you guys are doing it right? ML Power Princess, old style wrists. All 3 of those SW just came out with the new wrists. Kyle is a little worse, but not by enough to matter, to me anyway.

Also, I try to bend my wrist like Power Princess and it hurts, starts to feel like I'm pulling too hard. I bend it a little less, like Kyle's, and it feels perfectly fine. I think its more anatomically correct, which is not a phrase I thought I'd ever say talking about wrists.

Honestly they get better range then my Born Again Daredevil with the old joints.

Looks like some folks are already finding the M&G wave in stores. Can't remember what account, but someone posted a video of the AT-RT driver's head wobbling like a bobblehead. Said the whole wave feels cheap and rushed. Not entirely surprising to hear, but still a bit disheartening. May help make the decision a bit easier, though, on holding off on the army builders.

Man, that sucks to hear. Hasbro has been killing it with Black Series, so I hate to hear they took a step backwards with these Mandalorian and Grogu movie figures. Especially since they are basically all figures that have been released before. An X-Wing pilot (just a new head), all these troops, and yet another Mandalorian and Grogu. How could they screw that up!

Today though, at long last, I got Quinlan Vos. He is perfect. I love this figure. I'm so happy to have him as a Black Series figure.
