Star Trek

I did read about one company that said they are bailing on Star Trek because the licensing fees went up, but I haven’t seen anything saying double or across the board increases. Maybe it was something specific to that one company?

Star Trek seems to be on the wane again, so increasing licensing costs right now would seem like a bad move. Here’s to hoping Nacelle, MR and Exo-6 can continue for a while.

The rumor is that Paramount has basically doubled licensing fees, so it'll be interesting to see what happens to Nacelle's line if true. It may already be DOA.
Where did this "rumor" originate?

I hate how "information" like this is posted/shared/reposted/reshared with zero care for if it's true or how much damage it can do or even sharing the source.

Granted, I'm taking Rick at his word that he asked Brian and didn't just make that quote up. Not that I don't believe you asked him, Rick, but my point is it *is* just another sentence on the internet. So I guess I'm guilty too.

Also, the timing of this information coming out literally on the cusp of the first wave's release is suspect.

Lol, I mean...if ya know anything about me, you'd know that I don't make shit up. I have sources. I mean, I could share the screenshot, but I don't think that'd be necessary. Others can vouch for me.

And to be clear, no harm, no foul. I get it, I'm certainly used to it. People want my sources, they want proof, they want tangible evidence, they're not going to believe me unless they see it for themselves. I always say it all seems like a silly thing to make up, but...hey, skepticism can be healthy in doses, I suppose.

But hell, you could message Brian yourself. He's an incredibly friendly, accessible, and straight-shooting guy. I think that's the biggest hang up people have, is they're just too afraid of just messaging these guys and asking them questions directly...and I'm not. What's the worst that's going to happen? They don't answer me. Lol

Your post was not my issue. And if you knew me, you'd know I'm the same.

I don't do social media but I've dealt with enough corporate mouthpieces that I know it's fruitless. Brian is different in that he is the company but right now I want my Expanse Kickstarter refunded and Nacelle is refusing. I think the way they've handled that project is atrocious. The product is now nine months late and counting and they STILL haven't shown ANY of the final product that is "guaranteed" in our hands by end of January. Which means it probably sucks.

Whoops, there I go - spouting conjecture like it's a fact. That was my main problem with the first post.

I will say that it does show where their commitments lie.

I pre-ordered the Moo Mesa figures, I believe, in April 2024. Just now getting them today.

They announced that they were doing Star Trek figures in September 2024. Announced the license. Preorder was March of this year.

They're on a boat over here, as we speak.

The comment about increased licensing fees for Star Trek came from an interview on www.trekmovie.com. They were interviewing a small sized apparel making company who had been making Star Trek Jackets for I think 5 or 6 years. The owner is a self professed Star Trek fan and always wanted to make licensed Star Trek stuff. They are dropping the license for multiple reasons and one of those is increased licensing fees. You can still read the article at Trekmovie website.

Yeah, this is the same company I saw post on Facebook. Exo-6 has been indicating they are going to get into Star Trek apparel for a while now, so other factors could be in play.

Thanks for the info - here's the direct link.

That's a shame - really wonder what actually happened here. Like, Paramount must have seen that this was a market and wanted a bigger piece - or a bigger manufacturer wants the license and this was the way to free it up. Terrible way to treat a licensee, especially one that makes cool stuff.

I looked at their jackets and was tempted by a Picard S3, but the one I really want is the Beyond blue jacket. Although SNW also has some nice jacket styles....

Also, while I was at TrekMovie, I found out there's a preschool show called Star Trek Scouts! "Discover, Grow and Boldly Go!" and the latest episode wasn't awful. :)

Ahhh man - that outer tray in front of the figures always blocks the view of the figures, and it's curved so no matter what, you can't see the figures because of the reflections.

Not a fan at all of that packaging style, especially for a line that will mostly be wall-display - because if they're just going to stand on a shelf, I'd rather them do that in their nice boxes on a wall.

Dang.
