Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

I got Blade today. I really like this figure a lot, which seems to be the case with all Masterverse lately. They are crushing it with this line. But the likeness is honestly pretty darn good. Between that, the attire, and the accessories it fully looks like what you'd hope for out of a Blade MOTU Motion Picture figure.

Looking at the Masterverse Blade next to my Classics Blade, I can't decide which one I like more.

Blade's box art has the Sorceress, Skeletors Troops, and Teela on it as far as characters who haven't had figures yet from the MOTU Movie. God Skeletor is on their as well, and we haven't got him in that attire in Masterverse either.

I'm glad to hear about Despara being a Masterverse figure. That character will look incredible in this line.

I've almost stopped paying attention to this because, between Masterverse and Origins, it feels a bit more like artists having fun than any kind of hint at what might get made. Or at least, Mattel has no problem just not doing it even if they'd intended to.
Blade is sold out everywhere - which is a huge bummer because Masterverse basically doesn't exist in Canada anymore.

Maybe I'll be able to trade my extra movie He-Man with a custom head for a Blade sometime down the road.

I sincerely appreciate that he has two matching swords as opposed to what Mattel did with the MOTUC version.

I got Blade today as well and I dig him a lot. But don’t his blades seem a bit . . . shrimpy? I mean I am DEFINITELY glad they match this time but they seem a bit short, also the one packaged in the blister was warped and needed heat to straighten out. That said: he’s cool as hell and he does have the up-down hinge on his right hand at least, not his left though. Still: I dig him a lot.

Yeah the up-down hinge only being on one hand irks me. I forgot about that. I wanted to pose him with his arms out to the side, slightly back, and with the blades tilted down a bit but it only works on the one side.

Honestly.. I'll take one vertical hinge over no vertical hinge at all. But yeah.. it's dumb.

I was expecting no vertical hinge at all, so I was pleasantly surprised there.

Now I just have to find a Blade that doesn't cost me a fortune.
Also, yes -- his swords (in photos, at least) seem weirdly small. But, generally speaking, I'll take that over the usual with toys and fantasy of making them way too fucking big. I'm guessing the problem is that they made the movie Power Sword too small and now they had to make Blade's swords small or they'd be just as big as the power sword, which would also look really weird.

I dunno - they definitely fucked the size up. But I generally expect Mattel to fuck everything up these days. They legitimately cannot just make a really good toy anymore. Something always has to be wrong in the stupidest, most easy-to-notice-and-fix kind of way.

I stand by Terror Claws Skeletor being a really good figure/toy. It might be a thing where the stars align and the design works into their wheelhouse (i.e. the claws look better with horizontal hinges than they would with vertical) but regardless it's kind of a perfect figure. I'd be curious if there's any valid criticism that doesn't come down to personal taste.

Same, mrboshek, I haven't seen it but I'm on a real MOTU kick. Picked up the hardcover mini-comic compendium off Amazon for $22 and it's such a fun read. I throw on some faux-LOTR soundtrack, a fake fire crackle sound, turn on Skeletor's Bone Throne (oh yeah), and relax with the goofiness. Soon I'll be a real MOTU fan instead of just a poser who likes the modern toys 😂

I'd have to abstain from that conversation as I genuinely fucking hate the TC design and I don't think I could ever be objective about how goddamn stupid it looks.

I walked into Wal-Mart today, and they had the vintage collection Faker x3. I picked up two of them. Wal-Mart.com still had my pre orders scheduled for July 17th, so I cancelled them when I got home.

I love the look of this figure. But Faker has always been one of my favorite figures from the original MOTU line. it's funny, because 2 of my favorite figures ever from the original MOTU line are essentially the same figure, as they are Faker and Prince Adam. I just always loved the colors of both.

I do wish as I'd said before that vintage collection Faker had weapons that were the same color orange as his armor. His armor is the right color orange to match the original 80's Faker figure. These weapons are almost a metallic, rust orange.

Still, great figure.

Looking at some of the packaging to my Masterverse figures and Origins figures, I wonder if Dark Horse will let out a Volume 2 of the Art of the modern MOTU toy lines. Because since the first book full of modern toy line art, there has been some awesome artwork for Masterverse and Origins.

I have all of those Dark Horse books, but did they sell well enough to even merit them doing a Volume 2?

I have them all except the artwork one. For some reason I just haven't picked that one up yet. I do love a good MOTU hardback book for the coffee table though. Hopefully sales were good enough to do another. The other Dark Horse books obviously sold well enough for them to continue doing different types of MOTU books and I'm sure that most people who picked up the rest also got the art book (except me!)

If you mean you didn't get the artwork of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the hardcover is on Amazon for $28.99

If you mean the artwork of Masterverse and Origins like I was talking about, it's on Amazon as well for $30

The first one, the artwork of He-Man and the MOTU is a MUST HAVE. And at $28.99 instead of its original $50, holy balls.
