HIYA TOYS Godzilla

I’ve been thinking more about the 91 Godzilla figure and while this is a complete long shot, I’d love to display the upcoming heat ray variant with a scale model of the submarine that he destroys in the film and absorbs the radiation from. I wonder if there are any companies out there that ever made a desktop toy/model of that sub? I think the perfect scale would be roughly 1/350th scale so it’s around 10” across from bow to rudder

So King Ghidorah 1991 showed up out of the blue today. Haven’t taken him out of the box yet because I kind of want to open Godzilla & Ghidorah at the same time. Possibly while even watching the movie? Also I checked the tracking info and Godzilla showed up in the states yesterday morning. Here’s hoping that he arrives tomorrow

Maybe tonight would be a good time to watch Godzilla vs Biollante?

I don't think there's a model of that sub specifically as it was a remodel of a random miniature from the 1985 movie. Who knows if that one was even based on a real sub, but the one in 91 is definitely something unique. I'd say just find any old sub model that fits the size and roll with it as almost nobody will remember the exact look.

That said, I've got my finger on the trigger for the heat ray version because there are gashapon of the Super X, Super X 2, and Mazer canons you can find online that are close to the right scale.

The closest one I’ve found is this model kit but it’s the kind of kit that has to be assembled, painted and have all matter of decals added. Not quite what I’m looking for. It’s also entirely made from plastic construction and I was more looking into something sturdier. Perhaps diecast metal or solid polystone?

I did a little more digging and apparently it's a Project 941 Akula as the base which you can find 3d files for online it looks like. That said to make it like the movie would definitely involve some stuff added to the model or doing scratch building on top of a 3d print later alonmg wiht painting and such.

Usually anything that big at scale is going to be plastic if it's a vehicle replica. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that be polystone or cast metal. Like, metal parts maybe if it was a scale car at that size, but otherwise not so much.

I found a completed and fully assembled 1:350th scale Russian Victor Class III sub which appears to have almost entirely the same design and construction as an Alula Class submarine but the hull isn’t as bottom heavy and doesn’t come to that knifes edge at the bow so it actually might work a little better for my needs. Also unlike the only Akula class I could find, the Victor class is completely black whereas the Akula was orange and black

Nice!

Price is a bit steep, but looks good.

Yeah I know but it comes with the territory of buying a pro built kit. I suffer with arthritis these days so doing fine detailed meticulous work like this would destroy the nerves and tendons in my hands

That Ghidorah really is a beauty of a figure. I have my order in at BBTS, gonna suck with the tariff shit, but I want this.

I got mine yesterday and he a big boy. He’s even girthier than the 2019 King Ghidorah. Having my first look at that figure out of the box was a moment, let me tell you…. He’s 100% X-Plus or Banpresto quality but loaded with articulation. Makes the SHMA version look like a bootleg

Man I love this line. I never got into SHMA because of how late I would've been coming in, but I'm glad to be in on the ground floor for these. Hope it goes on forever and does every little nook and cranny. Marvel, Hanna Barbera, the new IDW universe, anime, the works. Not sure if it's Hiya's m.o. or not, but a dork can dream. The only thing I wish they'd go a bit harder on is accessories. Like why not include a trio of Dorats with this Ghidorah? Or do an accessory pack later on for some smaller characters/items.

I have fairly stereotypical big wants from a Godzilla line I get into, but first up I'm always jonesing for Biollante, Hedorah, and Destoroyah. But I'd love a Zilla as well, and my biggest pipe-dream wishlist item is probably the Stan Winston unmade Godzilla design, along with the Gryphon.

Right now I think Toho has Hiya on a pretty short leash. It’s just the Monsterverse figures and a little heisei and millennium era stuff from the classic Toho library. If you want weird and wacky, that was Super7’s bag but I think that collapsed after the most recent round of layoffs
