The BAF looks more like a Marvel Select than a Legend. As initially presented, that BAF was very well-done but I struggled to see it as any version of the Lizard that I recognized. The costume was technically there, but everything was so dark and dingy, and also the head/tongue situation just didn’t read “The Lizard, foe of Spider-man”. It reads more to me like a were-velociraptor with a 90s-style symbiote tongue. Felt like a “sculptor’s personal take”, which is totally fine and valid. But the new additions and coloring really do transform this figure to “yes, that is absolutely, recognizably the Lizard, specifically from the 90s”. I dig that.
The Ditko head that came with the Walmart Retro Card is pretty close. Not exactly "first appearance", but definitely how he looked in most of the early comics Ditko did.I still want a creepy, round-headed, 1st appearance Lizard--but am sure that will never happen.
This version of the Lizard may be one of my top ten Marvel Legends of all time. I just really enjoy how it was executed. The Ditko head that came with the Walmart Retro Card is pretty close. Not exactly "first appearance", but definitely how he looked in most of the early comics Ditko did.
Agreed. He has all the things I really wanted in a Lizard figure. One of Hasbro's best, without a doubt, and a big reason why I'm not remotely tempted by the BAF rerelease. This version of the Lizard may be one of my top ten Marvel Legends of all time. I just really enjoy how it was executed.
I love that McFarlane design though, with the comic colors that the retro has, there's no way I'd pass, even with its shortcomings as a figure.Agreed. Oh, don't get me wrong...I thought it was a cool redesign of the character, and if I didn't have a Lizard in my collection I'd probably jump on it for the McFarlane head alone. I'm sticking to one figure of the Spidey villains each though, and I wouldn't have room for this one in my display anyway.I love that McFarlane design though, with the comic colors that the retro has, there's no way I'd pass, even with its shortcomings as a figure.
Yeah, even with the long tongue I really like that head. I'm not much of a purist for the Lizard, I just think this is a good rendering of the concept. Don't have this version either though, so clearly I'm not THAT into the Lizard either way.
