G.I. Joe Classified Series: The Chatty Pointless Thread & Performance Art

Opened Desert Scorpion just now and I don't think I have anything worthwhile to add to the praise everyone else has heaped on this figure. It's very cool. I wish the butterflies were more useful and I'm still absolutely fucking floored that these guys keep on with the fucking horizontal wrist hinges. There's ZERO reason for this on newly-sculpted hands. It's just stupidity.

Otherwise the figure is awesome. I wish I had some use for the really cool face plate, but I will throw that in a box and never look at it again. I also pulled off the cloak thing. It's cool, but I really like the figure better without it so that's probably how he'll be on my shelf 99% of the time. I've said before that I do still wish he were a bit more vintage with the colors, but it's still an amazing figure and I love it to bits.

Scorpion is cool too but for as much work as they put into it (and they really, really did), it still is just an accessory to me that I'll probably never pose ever again once it's on the shelf. Also, for all the articulation, it doesn't seem like there's much you COULD do with it besides 'scorpion sitting on the floor.' The mobility in the tail and maybe in the pincers is probably all that's going to be useful the vast majority of the time. But I'll never fault a company for putting in -more- effort, so kudos on this one.

Of the three figures I got today - Desert Scorpion is definitely my favorite. But it's a lot closer between him and Dice than I expected.
Slice continues to be an abject failure of a translation and I hope what they did to him haunts their nightmares and the nightmares of everyone in their line for ten generations.

And then they shoved his hideous, unpainted primer-grey swords into the package right next to Dice's beautiful silver weapons. What. The. Actual. Fuck.
We've talked plenty about a lot of his shortcomings but this one still bothers me to this day. I spent a bunch of time repainting his weapons silver, and I don't like them that way. So I think I'll try ARAH black-style. So I've sat wondering if I should dye them or paint them black since then, for at least a month, and he's been sitting in my "to-do" list since he came out. Kind of a bummer, as Slice is one of my favorites.

Why were his weapons afterthoughts? Why give us two of each in grey instead of one of each, painted properly?

As for the Scorpion, I do agree the articulation is weird. The legs are so articulated but they're soft to the point where the middle joint doesn't do much. You can get him into some fun poses if you rotate them around, kind of like drop-down hips, and rotate the lowest legs back "normal", if that makes sense. But out of all the articulation points, not one on his "elbows" for his claw hands? Seems like kind of a good spot for a ball joint, no? And the rubbery claw plastic is annoying because it makes the "grip" worthless, it just kind of settles where the plastic wants to settle.

I'm thinking about silver with repeated light black washes to bring it down to a darker metal color until I'm happy with it.

For anyone interested... this is what Slice looks like in Budo's samurai gear. The head under the helmet is unmasked movie Snake Eyes just because I had it laying around and it fit in the mask. It does NOT fit on the ball joint, so it's just resting there for the photo. I actually do think this looks cool as fuck, but I don't think I can keep him this way because this isn't Slice and I need Slice with Dice.
Oh, and it's the claw weapon from Desert Scorpion and the sword from Articulated Icons.

Hey everyone! I haven't been in here for a while as I took a small break from Classifieds to catch up on some other stuff. But I'm back and in full force. I just got the Steeler/Short Fuze 2 pack from Target for $48 shipped. I saw they had $10 off when you spend $40 or more, plus I got Free shipping. And the 2 pack was only $54.99 to start on Target instead of the $62.99 Pulse was asking when it was on there.

I also, finally at dear god last ordered a Dial Tone. An In-Stock Dial Tone. I had that figure pre ordered forever and never got it. And then like I said, I put a pause Classifieds for a bit. But Pulse had him In Stock, so I ordered.

I got tired of waiting for Ripcord to get announced and saw this dude on sale for a whopping 10 bucks so screw it, etc.

Fair play to him, he's pretty darn nice!
Also this guy is a clean heat-and-pop neck/head swap with the Greenshirt, which gives you an even more Ripcord-y Ripcord AND, if you are so inclined, a “Face Camouflage” Greenshirt like the old camo paint that came with the figures for a while.
