Big Bad Workshop General

One thing that does turn me off to a lot of the 'regular clothes' guys out in the world, especially in the BBWS lines, is like... SO few people are so fucking jacked that you can clearly make out the shape of their biceps in a coat. Why are we sculpting these like that?

The owlbear is a little cartoonish/boring, but the beholder and displacer beasts they made are effin' fantastic.
I snagged that Beholder for the price of a (then) regular ML figure. Incredible deal. The only thing he really lacks is a stand. Honestly, the Beholder, in a very weird way, is what keeps driving me to get Shuma Gorath (wait, I'll explain). I want to line up him, Shuma, and MODOK on the shelf to show the evolutions of villains from dude with big head, to big head with one big eye, to one big eye and tentacles.
The intent at the time was for them to make the figures, but Gridiron would produce the Adventure Gear packs. Like, you'd buy a "guy in tan jacket" and Gridiron would have a set of "pyramid exploration gear" or something.
Hmm. I kinda like that, actually. I mean, it cuts against the individual figures having more identify, but it means they're also individually more customizable, which for my purposes would be the draw.
I don't love the concept of needing to buy gear from a secondary vendor for a figure ("don't let them take you to a secondary location!")
I assume it would be the same deal as all the accessories they did for the Monster Force figures. The guns in that image Fletch shared are already their sculpts IIRC. They'd just be providing the files for the gear. Given the quality of the sculpts, I'd be pretty happy to see them come out in injection molded plastic as part of this line.

I love that beholder but he rolls off the "pile of coins" stand / base he came with on a daily basis. I'm constantly chasing a rolling eyeball across my office.

So I love the idea of essentially a line of well rendered 1:12 Fisher Price Adventure People. I loved those toys as a kid an this is absolutely the kind of thing I will go hard for. Like we are begging Hasbro to lean in to the Adventure Team angle with Joe. But if they drag their feet then a line like this can fill the gap.

I bet if it does well Hasbro release an Adventure Team line of tjeir own

A peg straight into his ass would've gone a long way.

At what point do you just put a piece of Blu Tack under him?

Hey hey... keep it in the Joe thread.

There's one sweet spot on that Beholder base. It's terribly designed.

When I'm not an idiot, which has clearly not happened yet.
I managed to get mine right on that sweet spot on my shelf AND HE'LL NEVER MOVE AGAIN. The underside of him makes me think they considered a stand and my guess is it either didn't cost out or they ran out of time. I suppose ultimately it would have been cost either way, given how fast the Beholder went to deep discount prices. One of the most seriously slept-on toys I've ever seen.

I'd be 100% ok with them shaming Hasbro into an Adventure Team.

I like this idea. Shuma and Beholder especially work well together, as they both have roots in fantasy and have Lovecraftian elements.

The custom potential is really what I see as being the big draw for something like that.

It's odd, because I never saw Beholder in a store near me, not even when they went to places like Ross or Ollies. Now, if you need an Owlbear, my local Ollie's has shelves full of them!

Absolutely!

I never saw him in the stores either, but he was a lot of places online and went to discount almost immediately. Then a few months later you could get Xanathar for literally the exact same price as a pre price hike ML figure and I thought "it's a deal, it's a steal, it's the sale of the fucking century".
