ML Secret Wars

Totally forgotten I'd ordered Iceman, but he just showed up in a hilariously large box.
Yes, the retro cards for the Secret Wars stuff (and Fantastic Four) are just way over the top big. I'd really prefer if they were the same size as the card backs for things like the X-Men, Spider-Man and Mini-Comic waves.

As a seller, I hate shipping those big retro card backs. I bought several cases of the retro card Fantastic Four figures when they were down to to $39 per case of 6 figures and I've re-sold a ton of Thing, Johnny and Reed at full price (still can't sell Sue, High Evolutionary or Psycho Man), but the shipping costs on those huge card backs suck.

Have you tried listing them as loose and then opening the cardbacks when one sells? Take pictures of an open one and don't say it's this exact one in the listing. I've done that for some of the ridiculously large cardbacks when I just want to get rid of the figure.

Did anyone have trouble with Iceman having a stuck waist joint? Mine was so stuck i was half convinced it didn't have one but I was able to get a nail in between it and managed to break it free. Also the belt was stuck to the waist in the same spot so I wonder if it's some kind of issue with that. Either way it's frustrating
Maybe it's just because he's frozen?

Thank you folks, you've been fantastic! I'll be here all week! Don't forget to tip your waitstaff!

Got my incremental improvement Iceman. He's fine. Slightly better than mediocre. I don't so much mind the clear body, though I do think he'd look better in a light blue for better translucency like it's ice. I don't really get the "snowball" unless they just included it so it would be reuse for the O5 X-Men from the 60s. Overall he's decent but feels like a half-measure to get to where we should be. I have to wonder if they wouldn't have just been better reusing the recent Silver Surfer head in terms of expressions, as it's either angry or doofy looking for your options with this one. Nothing great, nothing awful. The shield looks like just a blue Prof. X though to me.

Just got Iceman opened. I'm... I mean hie's good. I like him. But as others have said, he's not some massive leap forward. I've got the retro carded one in my display and I reckon I'll swap him out for this one, but I could go either way. I'm happy to have him, just not floored.

I did find it hilarious to get him and Surfer in the same box though. Basically the same figure, both naked, both monochrome...

Tempted to give this Iceman the lightest of light blue washes and find some frost model spray to dust his edges with. Sure that stuff doesn't really hold that well though.

Just got Iceman and he’s fine. A lateral improvement at best. But ironically, I really dislike his ice accessories. I’m more than happy with the Can O’ Beams effects I’ve got.

I’ll stand the retro carded version with X-Factor Scott and Jean.

Not sure if the suggestion was made here - but swapping the extra head from the Secret Wars Iceman on to the Retro Card release instantly makes that figure much, much better. The cracked face was an abomination. The clear head works on that body very well as it takes on the coloring of the ball joint. Very happy with that.

I don't know if I'm going to keep my Iceman preorder. "Fine"and "good" are not good enough at this price. Plus, it's still the Sunfire buck, which is the biggest deterrent.

I'm already past my BBTS return threshold for him, I'd have to get store credit. Should I use it for a sweatpants DD? Or keep chipping away at the movie FF team? Save it for a rainy day?

Fine might even be generous. I only got him because Iceman was always my favorite X-Man and I hadn't bought a new one since the Toy Biz days. This body really needs to be retired. It has a lot of points of articulation, but it still manages to seem restricted. I get frustrated trying to get him into the poses I see in my head, but the figure just can't really do it. Combine that with the low shoulders and poor accessories and he really is more "poor" than "fair." Here's hoping he finds his way into X-Men '97 so we get a shot at a better figure via that series.
